Re: Author Feedback: Steve
The Dilgar role was to continue their arc of societal redemption, and it provides the final justification for the crewing of the Huascar in the spinoff "Origins". I'll confess I do wonder if I should have not had the Aurora do Noveria. I have reasons why I wanted them to be the ones to pick up Liara...

Re: Frigid reads: book review thread
I read Mr. Wolf's autobio over a decade ago due jto it being listed by Norman Friedman in the long list of books he used as material for his history on the Cold War. What struck me about the book was that Markus Wolf came off as hurt and stung by the failure of Communism in the end. It made me wonde...

Re: Dark Horse Announces Legend of Korra Comic Books
Oh? Is Korra back to solving everything with her fists? They really can't a handle on her can they? She's a bit back and forth. One of the good scenes is when she rallies the refugees from Republic City. That shows the Korra we know and love, fully developed. OTOH, going Avatar State to intimidate ...

Re: Dark Horse Announces Legend of Korra Comic Books
Michael D. DiMartino is writing them, so there are good odds it'll fit the vision of the creators. Having actually read the first book, the truth of this line now feels a bit mixed. It's almost like the actual creators can't help themselves and keep regressing Korra back to her Book 1 self. :???: A...

You know what? Fuck it. Fuck my distractions, fuck my inability to focus. I'm going to light a fire under my own ass. I've spent the last ten weeks trying to write these episodes. I should be on fucking 2-15 by now, or at least finishing 2-14. But no. Distractions, sleepiness, it's all messed up my ...

I suspect that partway through the movie as described, my imagination and boredom would conspire and seize control of my cognitive processes, resulting in the rest of the movie being a blank to me as I bemuse myself with the thought of my in-head Sith alter ego Darth Martellus Force-choking the Jap...

As far as I'm concerned, these people are hostis humani generis, the literal definition of the term outlaw. A salute for Mr. Kutcher for supporting their victims, and for them, preferably, a noose and a lamppost or ship's mast.

Things like this make me wonder if the Habsburgs were really that bad, and if the idea of supporting nationalist aspirations for independence didn't turn out to be a mistake.

Denna is from the Sovereign of the Stars universe, which was inspired by stuff we did in the SDNW4 STGOD back in 2010-2011. Shroom made a faction called the Ministry of Fate that was based on the "Dark-ESPers" factions that would pop up in that setting, such as Force Lord's Sith-like forces that wer...

Let's just say that by the end of this season both of the sisters will have gone through changes.
2-06 is in fact setting up what is arguably Caterina's first step into becoming emotionally independent of her sister.

Hey Frig, ever read the Discworld novel "Monstrous Regiment" by the late (much missed) Sir Terry Pratchett? If not, consider it recommended for review. It's one of the stand-alone books of the series, taking place far from Ankh-Morpork in the land of Borogravia, and features one-book protagonists (a...

I am not familiar with the source material, but so far it's a decent story. You've given us all a glimpse of what each character is like, set up the basic elements of the world, and given us tension on what caused the shima to howl. Was it Nura and his bodyguard? Or something else? I'll make sure to...

Looking at this thread again, two things come to mind. A) With Stan Sakai's legendary rabbit samurai, it makes one wonder why the closest thing we've ever gotten to an animated adaptation was an episode of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. "The Real World, Part 1" was the fourth and penu...

A book I read recently, that I think you should check into is "Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothless. I don't want to spoil anything, but I would love to see your opinion. The sequel is also out: "A Wise Man's Fear". It would be interesting to read his view of those books. Rick got me to read them.

Yeah unfortunately while Gotham is pretty damn a pretty damn good show replete with great characters, the only purpose of Morena Baccarin's Dr. Leslie Thompkins is to serve as an object of fixation for Edward Nygma. A waste I suppose, but it does mean more screen time for the main characters Fish M...

Re: The Die-Hard Republicans Who Say #NeverTrump
My current reading causes me to find an interesting historical parallel here. Republicans who don't like Trump and don't like Hillary may find themselves having to decide whether to follow the footsteps of Alexander Hamilton, and support an enemy (Hillary) that they might yet expect some competence ...
