Re: Ebola crisis: Liberia 'faces huge surge' says WHO
Unfortunately, the travel bans are also stopping much needed medical and safety supplies from reaching the affected areas, thus encouraging the spread of Ebola, threatening to turn it from an epidemic to a pandemic. Obviously we shouldn't be encouraging people to fly to these places, but the affecte...

Re: At the Movies with General Havoc
I've become a big fan of Korean films over the past few years, primarily through the use of Netflix to view them (Most of the movies on my list are foreign films now). This sounds like it'd be a fun romp, though alas I'll have to wait for this to get to Netflix (hopefully) as it's not screening anyw...

He's found that the best way to deal with killing Space Wizards is misdirection and excessive force.
Admittedly, he's a little short on excessive force at the moment.

Re: Israel starts Gaza ground offensive
I don't know. Maybe Israel is just more honest about their intentions when they hit a school than when other countries do it. I'm not in a position to know those sorts of things. I'm not an expert on military or international politics, so I guess before the troops came into Gaza Strip, you hit it wi...

Re: Israel starts Gaza ground offensive
You'd think there would be someone... I dunno... checking for this shit. It reaks of complicity, which is disturbing on many levels and someone needs to get their ass fired either due to criminal negligence or for assisting a terrorist organization. As for the situation as a whole, well it's all bad...

From now on whenever I refer to where Havoc lives I'm going to sing the tune "Rice-a-roni, the San Francisco treat!"
Partly because I know he can come up with no worse insult for where I live than "Buffalo".

Re: Malaysia Airlines 777 Crash (Europe)
Here's a nice little analysis piece by someone who is apparently in the know about such things as missile defense systems. Charles Duelfer is an Iraq expert who spent more than 25 years in the national security agencies of the U.S. government. He studied the Korean Airlines flight 007 that was shot ...

Re: Peshmarga Ministry Condemns Iraqi Airstrike on Kurdish T
This is sort of reminding me of the Young Turks government at the end of the Ottoman Empire. They expected either full loyalty or you were a traitor to be exterminated. The Kurds have been less than subtle about their decision to break free and the Iraqi government is showing the same aptitude for s...

Re: Iranian pilot 'killed fighting in Iraq'
My mind literally cannot comprehend such a situation where a member of the Iranian military would be working with ISIS.
My worry is that ISIS can take down fighter jets. Which I guess isn't much of a surprise since they've gotten all of the Iraqi Army's goods.

Definitely agree with Josh and Havoc here. Just another day in the world of political back and forth. I do feel the need to say this though, this shows Snowden's true character. Say what you will of Manning, he at least was either brave enough or stupid enough to stand up for what he believed in and...

If the military is used to squash the protesters that will kill whatever misplaced hopes of Turkey joining the EU are left. I don't think he's lost it, he's been handling this too well thus far to say that. I would point out that he had his Deputy Prime Minister say it though, not him. My guess as such is that he's bluffing, raising the specter of Military that worries the West and might worry the citizens, who know the ...

While I can't agree with the certainty just yet (if there's anyone who seems to enjoy a fight as much as an American it sometimes seems to be a Turk). But I do agree that all signs point to that being a general idea of what Edrogan's plan is. The man loves his power and will do what he needs to do t...

As Havoc said, pissing off 50% of the population is less of an issue when that 50% gets split up between two or three parties. The joys of the multi-party system at work once more. He's obviously a smart guy, but I think he's either gotten too certain of his power base or he believes he has effectiv...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Hizir, perhaps to the surprise of everyone, arrived to the meeting alone, no guards, nor his First Mate or Tactical Officer as had been with him last time. The former pirate was actually sensibly dressed as well. He sat, leaning back in his chair, his eyes on Anderson for several long seconds before...
