Re: The Octogenarian Who Took on the Shoguns
I'm really appreciative of finding this research. It brings to life what is normally just an offhand comment in a few tomes of Japanese history into a very real event with a fairly detailed analysis of the participants and their motivations that is quite even-handed. Thank you for finding it, Magi.

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD
I have a number of questions regarding the religious breakdown: Duchess, did you consult with the other PC nations with regard to their religious leanings? If you did not, you MUST. Arbitrarily declaring the religious affiliation of say, Occitania without consulting frigid would not be OK. In fact:...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD
*looks at map* The White Sheep Turks? Fuck... *thinks* Actually, Duchess. I have a question. How well would it go over if I had my hands on a Patriarch as well? Uh, I think there are a lot of rival patriarchs, and the Ottomans getting one elected would however infuriate the Khanate, which otherwise...

I switched them to the Roman column and Ragusa to the Spanish column, since Ragusa will do whatever the Venetians aren't doing.

Here is the map with the full Order of St. John added back in, but it's important to remember that Cyprus is just under the protection of the Order; only Rhodes, Morea, and Corfu are actually governed by it:

And here's a final version: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/TheDuchessofZeon/Europe_finished.jpg Cyprus was not a Venetian possession and is still an independent Crusader Kingdom. Chris and I were thinking that assignment Morea and Corfu as protectorates of Skanderbeg's Albanian state as Ven...

I endorse Cav's timeline fully, of course. And the name is pronounced A-yu-roog. Feofaniya is Theophania to the usual English rendering, and she'd probably be called Empress Theophania of the Mongols by most Europeans of the time! Bordžigin is the Russian rendering of Genghis Khan's Clan Name.

So this thing was basically his baby from day one? Yes; it tended to be Japanese custom for lower ranks to act out to force change, but it's clear that the generalship largely condoned him precisely because of their own backgrounds, and Kohzuma seems to be the principle likely direct collaborator. ...

A few notes -- 1. I am saying that Mishima was a direct collaborator, not just a canary. In fact, he was probably the driving force, and the generals went along because they desired it, but also because Mishima provided a convenient fall guy if it came apart. 2. Mishima was extremely well-known and ...

Very cool thread Marina. I remember learning about Mishima years ago when I was in high school, but this kind of information is very interesting. Thanks. Thank you very much. I've always been deeply fascinated by Mishima Yukio and the details and circumstances of his death have, I felt, never been ...

The 25 November Incident.
At the Ichigaya general headquarters of the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force on 25 November 1970, around 1100 hours a pre-arranged meeting took place between the commander of the garrison, General Mashita, and the famed author Mishima Yukio, head of the Tatenokai (楯の会) or "Shield Society" of some ...

There are plenty of White British and European anti-semites out there. Sure can't deny that. Still from what I've read the 2nd gen kids of Muslim immigrants (or in some cases even Eastern Euros if we want to be fair) are more active and open about it. At least they are on the continent. And we're t...

I tend to write protagonists in a certain number of flavours. 1. Career military officers. Being a military officer is a great equalizing factor of gentle-hood so to speak, the condition of being respectable, and inoculates a certain mindset. No matter what side they're on I generally try to protray...

Some notes on the armour scheme of the Taloran Line Ship, or dreadnought to the foreign powers: For the heavily protected Taloran dreadnought, utterly no expense is spared in protection. By long tradition the shields are considered the first line of passive defence (active defence being the intercep...
