#1 Preferred laptop mouse

Post by Destructionator XV »

Like my other thread, this is asking which type of laptop mouse you prefer.

There are three kinds that I know about:

The electrostatic touchpad, which has been very popular on most laptops sold, manipulated by gliding your finger along the pad.

The "nipple mouse", found on IBM Thinkpads, found between the g, h, and b buttons on the keyboard, manipulated with your forefinger/

And trackball mice, which have the stationary ball sticking up and you roll it around with your fingers.

For the poll and responses, assume using an external mouse is not an option; of the three provided, which do you prefer.

Trackball is the best of that lot, I actually became somewhat deadly on Unreal Tournament once with a Trackball, to think of it.

The 'nipple mouse' is called a TrackPoint and is my favourite, it's the easiest to handle for me.
I can use a touchpad if I have to but will do a lot of keaboard shortcuts.
Trackball? Keyboard all the way.

If I'm forced to...trackball, though I can work with a touchpad (I have one on this touchpad.)

I can't stand using the average laptop mouse, so I always plug in a USB mouse (my Logitech Marblemouse Trackball...) and use that.

If the 'average laptop mouse' is the one the average size of a TicTac dispenser I agree

I did not know that. I've only ever seen them referred to as nipple or clitoris mouse

I too like those the best, and is one of the reasons why I am so loyal to the Thinkpad brand. I really hate the touchpads; I find them almost completly useless. Decent for scribbling on Paint, but that is about it.

A trackball would be my second choice, but for those, I would prefer one externally; being right under the keyboard is an awkward location for them IMO.

The Trackpoint seems to be the most stable for me. I've got an electrostatic pad on my laptop and half the time I end up jumping all over the screen, my text disappearing or going to different spots then what it should, etc, because I keep bumping the pad with my hand or something.

If if can have the choice I still prefer an external mouse then one one the laptop, but I will go with trackball first, trackpoint. And if I must, I can use a touchpad, but I will do as much keyboard nav as possible.

IBM nipple mouse. First, it provides more solid cursor movement than that overly sensitive "touchpad". Second, it IS like a nipple indeed, so next time I masturbate with my notebook, not only that I can watch porn with it, but I can also lick at something.

Touchpad, but only if the annoying tap-to-leftclick function is turned off. Once that's disabled, the jumping and accidental commands go down dramatically.

I never got that nipple mouse to work and trackballs feel too touchy.

Funny, I can't work the bloody things without the tap-to-leftclick function.
How people can't work with the TrackPoint is beyond me, it's for all practical purposes a miniature joystick.

Touchpad here. My HP had a nice function where you could turn it off. Most useful in games and the like... I MUCH prefer an external mouse, though.

External mouse wins by a landslide no questions asked, Adam specifically asked for what you prefer when that's not an option.
