#1 New 40K Turn-Based Video Game in the works

Post by Hotfoot »

Not Space Hulk, but...something else...

No more information than that, but given how ruthlessly GW keeps the main line off of turn-based titles, I'm going to guess one of the side lines. Blood Bowl's already been done and is getting a sequel soon, Space Hulk is already on the list. For 40K, that leaves Battlefleet Gothic, Epic, and Necromunda.

Now, I'd love to see any of those three in a title for various reasons, but I think it's going to be Necromunda, and here's why. XCOM showed that a Necromunda-styled game has a market, and I know I can't be the only one who made that connection when it came out. GW is nothing if not attuned to making money, and will likely respond in kind. The fact that the rules for this game, and the factions involved have been in stasis for well over a decade means that it will be pretty simple to release this and forget it.

Battlefleet Gothic would be my second guess, but that would potentially make more work for a proper campaign mode, and there haven't exactly been many other space games lately to show money-making potential. This one's been in stasis for a similar amount of time as Necromunda, and would be relatively easy to code as a result, but...yeah. I don't see it, but I would be quite pleasantly surprised to be wrong here.

Epic is dead last for a reason. While it would fit into the mold of the developers quite nicely, it's too similar to the main tabletop game. This one might be a dark horse, and we might get a sort of Hearts of Iron styled thing from it, but I can't help but think that it would have to be well divorced from the actual game in some way for GW to allow it. Not that I wouldn't love commanding companies of super-heavy tanks and such, but I doubt that will see the light of day for some time. The fact that it would also have to show adjustments of the main game in order to be accepted by fans, well, yeah.

I'd totally groove on a BFG game, but I'm betting you're right and it'll be Necromunda.

I can somehow find it within myself to live with that, so long as it's well done.
