Well. Perhaps some good might come out of the mercy-killing closing down of the LucasArts game studio. Jedi Outcast was bug-ridden but still beloved, so I'm hoping to see something like the Freespace Open project to apply here too.paritynews.com wrote:For all those game developers who are learning the tricks of the trade there is something interesting. Activision and Raven Software game studios have open sourced a couple of their games so that people can play as well learn from the code.
The gaming companies have released the source code of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast through SourceForge via jediacademy and jedioutcast. Jedi Academy is a third person shooter game from 2003 while Jedi Outcast, a 2002 title, is a single player game that also features multi-player modes.
The code of the games was open sourced on Wednesday coincidently the day on which Disney shut LucasArts game studio which was involved with both these games. Both the titles are powered by the Quake III engine with some customizations done by Raven Software. The source code is available under the GPLv2 license.
