#1 World of Darkness MMO Cancelled

Post by Hotfoot »

Full Story here:

Short version? CCP has too many games in development and lost too much money last year, the game's been announced for nearly 8 years now, and even for an MMO that's well into development hell. It got shoved to the backburner a while ago, so that it got shitcanned in favor of their far more lucrative EVE projects isn't surprising.

But hey, at least there are the 20th Anniversary editions, right?

The project's been in development hell forever and they don't have so much as a screen shot to show for it. I'm completely unsurprised it got shit canned. If you really want a WoD-ish MMORPG there's always the Secret World, you play human members of secret societies rather than any supernatural being, but it has the same urban fantasy vibe of there being a supernatural world full of magic, mystery, and terror behind the veil of the normal modern world.

Yeah, The Secret World hits the same vibe, but it's always a shame to see a project fail. The creators of EVE could have done something interesting with the Old World of Darkness, I'm sure, but we're not going to see it sadly.

Well it's probably for the best then. Still a shame that we won't get a decent game from this, but better to cut your loses then make another Duke Nukem Forever.

Not surprised for the reasons everyone else has mentioned. Old World of Darkness remains a valuable property, as the last couple of kickstarters have proved, so we haven't heard the last of it.

A buddy of mine was doing a WoD MMO with a small startup, when they got a Cease&Desist so CCP could take over. That version already had the modeling up and running for shifting forms and a base code for fighting.
