#1 Win 7 Update question

As you may or may not know, I've got a new (as in not used) PC since May. We went through the inevitable update cycles, other than the fact that the thing takes forever to get going and the 'silent' power plant is anything but even in energy saver mode, there's a little fact that's worrying me....and that's every time I shut the system down, it claims to need to work in 4 updates. Every. Single. Time. I'm reasonably certain even for Microsoft that's not normal.

Did you check the update logs in windows to verify those updates are 1) being downloaded and 2) being installed? It may try to install them and fail to install them and thus try again whenever the system shuts down. I'd check to see if you can delete these updates from your system and try to redownload them and see if that corrects the issue, and barring that, if they're necessary updates or more optional ones.
