So I got the Steel Legion mod earlier today... and god does it RULE!
Also got the Tau mod, but it doesn't work as requires Winter Assault. Which IMO sucks ass, as I don't have the money to afford WA yet... same for Eclipse of Existence (the Necron mod). I also downloaded Daemonhunters... but it doesn't work with patch 1.4... :/
But anyway! I was wondering if anybody has any mods that they've enjoyed?
Oh, and if anyone has a line to the Tyranids mod that I've heard about I'd appreciate being pointed that direction... ta :)

If I may ask. What are some good mods? Personally I'm a fan of the IG and Chaos in the game, so would I like the Tau or the Necron? What other mods should I look at? I already have Winter Assault so that isn't a problem.

I haven't visited the mod scene since WA came out (not a fan at all of the re-"balanced" gameplay... AND THE FUCKING UNATTACHABLE CHAPLAINS, I WANT MY RECLUSIAM SQUAD GODSDAMNIT. HONOR OF THE FUCKING CHAPTER).
Back in the day I played the Guard mod (
) and Daemonhunters. Some real professional work in the latter.

Downloaded the Tau mod. Alright though there are some balance issues. The army painter sucks, three or so of the colors aren't even used. And thus far the buildings are untextured. I'll wait until their further along, or until the next official mod comes out with the Tau, whichever comes first.
As for the Necron, the link you put up Elheru, I can only find a download for a movie, not for the actual mod.

My information may be wrong on that one, I was under the impression that they had a mod complete or at least a demo version. They could very well still be in dev, though.
As for the Tau mod-- when I come by some $ I'll be playing WA, and then I'll be able to go Firewarrior on some Gue'la arse...

Reading through the site it doesn't look like it's up yet and won't be for awhile. However on a cool note it looks like it might be compatable with the Tau mod.

Now...now nothing...
I hope you're happy...

Tanks.
Lots of tanks.
From Tier One, vehicles. Tier Two, Leman Russ and Vanquisher, along with two artillery(One for troops, one for tanks).
Tier Three, hooo-boy, air-dropped tanks, Executioners, Demolishers, and one flavour I'm forgetting.
And of course...
Behold the glory of the Machine God! Stormblade Battlefield Suppression Unit!

Kekeke.
I assume this is only for the Imperial Guard. Or does this try to extend to the others as well? If it is only for the IG, what does this do to balance?

It's an entirely seperate army. The original was beautifully balanced with the original DoW layout.
Oh, I remember the fourth 'tank' now. The Basilisk. Which had a sickening range(Yes, bigger than the WA one) and an enclosed model.
They also included extra units for a few sides(Eldar Jetbikes, Orkz had Grot Tanks and Grot Squads).
To round it out, the construction team was a Pathfinder Squad(Equipped with lasguns. They could capture points and then build on them, which was cool. Couldn't repair; you needed a Trojan vehicle to repair). The main infantry was just 'Infantry', a ten man squad with grenade launchers optional. And the Rough Riders.
There were Stormtrooper units, of which you could only field four, but with superior guns and the almighty Meltagun, they made up the bulk of my infantry efforts.

Steel Legion's already out for DoW 1.4, doesn't work with WA though I don't think. You can find the full download on filefront or even with just a google search.
Another cool thing about Steel Legion: once you've got the Airstrip built you can deep-strike all your Leman Russ variants...
Heh, it was obscene, the army I built up last night... four stormtrooper squads, two with meltaguns, one with plasma rifles, another with flamers; four Soldier squads, equipped with either plasma guns or rocket launchers; two Leman Russ Vanquishers, two regular Russes, a Leman Russ Executioner, Basilisk, Stormblade... plus Commissar Yarrick, the Colonel, and the Priest... poor Evil Sunz had no chance.
And it didn't help that I conquered *every* SP, Relic, and slag heap on the 513-size map! I had resource points out the yin-yang...

Have there been any updates for Steel Legion since, say, November? That's when my copy dates to.

It seems to still be in version 1.0.0... at least that's the one I got. They're likely working on a WA-compatible version of the mod.
And to those of you who've heard of the Nid mod and were contemplating getting it: DON'T BOTHER.
Not for another few years at the very LEAST.
Why?
Simple, here's a buncha pics...
The big Orks with the banners are Warriors, the Dread is a Carnifex, and the Defiler's supposed to be a Biovore. Excuse me for being less than impressed. Oh, and did I mention the Warriors are effectively invincible? N/A wound, N/A morale...
The Genestealers are ridiculously overpowered in close combat. That's them against the Eldar base...
Less than a fuckin' minute later.
I have to give them credit on the Genestealer model, that does look very nice...
But other than that? If all you're interested in is the Genestealers, cool, but other than that this mod is simply not worth the time. It'd probably be much better to just wait for the official expansion...

They're working on it, but sadly, still in beta.. Bastards go slow. But I will wait for quality.

I dearly loved the Cadian mod, since it had the awesome doctrines- I loved the air units doctrine that let me drop the Valkyries into the mix.
Daemonhunters rocked hardcore as well, and definitely set my teeth for the Sororitas mod that's in development that they bundled into it.
The Thousand Sons mod looks all sorts of awesome, but that one is a long time in the coming because they're taking time to do it perfect.
The persistant bodies were added in WA, so that's not needed anymore. I'll agree with Gaius about how I'm not entirely fond of all the rebalancing stuff they did. (The new tier three weapons techs are a fucking bitch, and tier three for Whirlwinds? Bite me.)
But it does have my beloved Guard, so I'm happy. I plan on seeing if the Cadian mod team is going to work the doctrines into the setup or not, that'll definitely be interesting.

I love the Imperial Guard for really only one reason. The Basalisk. First thing I do after securing my perimeter is to always build three of these babies and proceed to bombard the hell out of my opponent. It gets even worse after I get the assassin whos only real job in my army is to make sure my basalisks get clean shots at whatever the hell they want. And that's not even getting into their evil evil shot-o-doom which destroys everything, ever.

In a brilliant display of circular logic, I love the Guard simply because they're the Guard.
Grenade launcher spam is fucking nasty, though.

Now when it comes to my circular logic. I love Chaos because they're Chaos.
Not to mention Berzerkers, Possessed space marines, Predators and the glory of the BloodThirster will fuck you up every time.

Just played the "Depth of Heresy Mod" Very cool, so far it only has made changes to the IG, SM, and Chaos. The changes range from few (You can deep strikes Kasrikin for the IG), to some (New units for SM), to a lot (With Chaos you pick which of the Chaos Gods to follow and get different units based on that).
All in all I think it's a pretty good mod and after playing it I can only hope that the next expansion will do to Chaos what this mod did, because it's very cool and adds a really nice element.

Yeah, a God/Undivided selection would really flesh out Chaos. Give 'em the relevant troop and daemon types and some specific bonuses for specializing in a god and you're set.
If anyone's played C&C: Generals: Zero Hour, something like that. Put in some major Marine variants like Templar, Blood Angels, and Space Wolves, major Craftworlds like Ulthwe, Ork Speed Freekz, and Guard units like Catachans, and the game would be 20 billion times cooler.
