#1 SoA/ToB and IWD II problem

As you may or may not have noticed from my Venting posts, I am no longer able to play SoA/ToB and IWD II. Both games grind to a halt either on completing the save game load or (if I'm lucky) 7 or so seconds into the actual game. IWD/HoW works OK. I can't find any malware that may cause this, and the only change to my system since the last time they worked is a graphics driver update. I have a GeForce 2 Pro/GTS and am now using the 71.89 driver. As IWD/HoW works fine and nothing else changed with the system I suspect the later iterations of the Infinity Engine don't work with that driver set. Yes, I've tried a complete delete/reinstall (including complete manual removal of the registry entries) of the games.
Does anybody have aditional ideas, or know that particular problem?
I have NOT yet tried a driver downgrade (I upgraded because some OTHER stuff wouldn't work otherwise)so that is for the time being not an option.

You can get the Patch for ToB from Bioware.com

I don't know about IWD2, however.

have you tried getting a different set of drivers? Not downgrading but perhaps trying something like the omega drivers?

I have the latest patches for both SoA/ToB and IWD2. With or without the patch, no dice.

As I have no clue what those are, no. Please elaborate.

The Omega drivers(Google it!) were independent drivers written for ATI and nVidea graphics cards that are designed to optimize and increase compatibility for programs and games ran on those cards. If you have graphics problems with a particular driver set you can often use the Omega drivers and remove the problem. Not always, but it's worth a shot.

Well, that seems to have done the trick (though for some reason I had to reinstall my sound card driver. Meh. Winblows works in mysterious ways.). KotoR still works, as now does IWDII. Now for reinstalling BG2 (groans).
Thanks for the tip, B4. Much obliged.
