#1 Help with vid cards and EA games

I just upgraded my vid card to an ATI x1600 AGP card. I've got 1.5 gb of ram running a AMD Athlon 3000+.
Issue is this: Battlefield Vietnam, BF2, and other games such as HL2 Episode One all bomb out randomly on it for no apparent reason.
I've updated video drivers to latest versions. I've tried third party versions. I've tried lowering the settings in game. I've done everything I can really think of that could cause it to fail but nothing seems to solve the issue.
All games are patched to latest versions.
Any clues?
