NEWS!

I should be more underwhelmed, I mean "yay, a countdown...to a teaser, with dramatic music!" Then again...it's Fallout

On the more tangible side, I also stumbled across this.

Yes, it's Fallout dammit. The heavily-armed champion of humanity (plus other good guys, whatever freaky species they are) needs to travel post-apocalyptic California again, dammit!

Or anywhere else, really. There's a lot of post-nuclear world after all.

33 more days until the trailer, apparently.

Anytime they want to give actual information? That'd be awesome. This teasing nonsense just gets my dander up. We know you think you're hot shit Betheseda. Now show me why you're so confident.

Okay, I don't meant to beat people over the head with this Fallout 3 stuff, but if you go to that official site I linked to, there are some seriously badass matte paintings.

Also: 6 days til teaser!

Teaser is HERE!

From what I gather, the whole thing is done in-engine, so that's pretty cool. What's uncool is the release date...ugh. Don't they know there might actually be a nuclear apocalypse by then?

Ok... I happen to love how they did that. I do want to know where they found an AM station to play that music, and how the HELL a Vac-Tube lasted long enough to catch it.

But it was all FallOut GOODNESS, even with PipBoy poster on the wall.

If they really need that long and do a good job of it, I won't mind the wait. But it had better be a good job, and I don't just mean graphics. Graphics are eye candy, but as I always say, candy is nice but it's not a good steady diet. You know what I mean.

Well maybe not. I hope it'll be Fallout and not "Something pretty named Fallout" but I have nothing against "Fallout and it's gorgeous too, in a post-apocalyptic fashion."

Yes, yes... but where's Baldur's Gate 3?

Depending on the ending of ToB that would either be "Bhaalspawn without a Bhaal essence tries to do an adventure that dares to try and equal the epicness of BGII/ToB" or "Play God: Literally". Though a grand deific adventure where you kick Cyric's ass would be pretty interesting...

I suppose that's fair enough, but the Bhaalspawn wasn't the person whose story I actually had in mind. It should be i]Minsc[/i] damnit! The hamster-wielding ranger. And Jan Jansen. And Jaheira. And Viconia. And we always need more Irenicus

More Minsc or Jaheira is always something to look forward to, and Haer'dalis had potential, too.
No more Irenicus, though. Villains should have the decency to stay beaten once they've been killed, then killed AGAIN in hell. Besides, his outfit was positively silly (and he talked way too much).
Hell I'd settle for a redo of the BG series with 3.5 rules and the TOEE engine.

As I recall, TOEE engine sucked.

Look, don't get me wrong, I loved Baldur's gate, and I loved the NPCs, but all good things must come to an end, and throne of bhaal wrapped things up very nicely.

Let them move on to other stories. Like NWN2, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc.

I agree... if anything Bioware needs to do a new cRPG that isn't set in Western Faerun like BG and NWN; something where you could go to Cormanthor, Mulhorand, Haluraa, Rashamen... well, it's a big setting.

Apart from the handling of henchmen looting habits and the lvl 10 limit (which I suspect was intentional) I can't recall anything wrong with the TOEE engine.

Story-wise, absolutely. Engine-wise, no. I want more single-player party D&D RPGs. And NWN (and presumably NWN2, NWN was so disappointing I didn't even bother with the expansions leave alone the sequel) ISN'T.
I'm all for new stories, locations, characters. But I do NOT want to be locked down to controlling a single character and one henchmen with an IQ of approximately 15. Single player RPGs used to be about controlling a party.
Well, AND turn-based. But I guess I could live with the pseudo-realtime approaches of the IE games and NWN if need be.

Neverwinter Nights 2 pisses on the original. It is also pretty damn party-based, with about five party members available at a given time.

And the NPCs are fun. Kurgan takes over for Minsc, the Teifling is sorta Imoen, the list goes on. It's a good successor to the style of Baldur's Gate.

Seconded, if only because I'd like the discussion of Bioware RPG's to be expanded upon.

Shut up or I'll personally unmend you again. care to spend ANOTHER couple millenia in pieces?
IF anybody wishes to continue this particular subdiscussion then I agree a split is in order. Otherwise I'd say we just cap it here and go back to discussing FO3.

No Mutants Allowed has some scans of a Game Informer article about Fallout 3. From the demo, it looks like the writers have the right idea about the feel of the world. Naturally, though, people are whining about the demo as written by this one guy to mean that the game will suck octopus balls or something. As if the demo is the game and it won't be worked on from now until Fall '08 and game reviews are totally accurate even though I've yet to read one that was totally accurate to the game (they're much like back-cover book reviews - after you read the book and then see the back cover, you will shake your head at it).

Octupi do not have testicles.

Wow, thanks for the link.

I'm quite impressed with what they're doing over there. And they're re-working the 3rd-Person camera to not suck so bad? (Seriously, did anyone even try the 3rd person view in Oblivion? It was basically unuseable) This is quite welcome news.
