#1 external power on switch

Post by B4UTRUST »

Alright, I've got a problem I'm facing and I'm looking for options/suggestions here...

I've got a case where I've got 3 computers that are located behind panels in a boat that need to be powered on for navigation, etc on the boat. But the issue is having to pull panels every time you want to turn them on. So I need to figure out a way to wire them so I could power each on with a switch, be it a switch molded into the dash, or something like that. Trying to isolate them on their own fuse or power bar isn't an option really. And since the boat gets more or less constant power to some degree or other, neither is the startup on power option in most bios.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I'm not much of an electrician so if this is laughably stupid/impractical by all means indulge, but since those computers presumably already HAVE power switches (i.e. the ones you use to power them up after having pulled those annoying panels) couldn't you just either remove them from the computer case, install a longer cable, and put them somewhere more convenient?
Or alternatively simply attach longer cables connected to more conveniently placed power switches to the power on jack on the MB?

I'm witht he freak in a cape.

Remove the power switches, rerouting them with a longer cable to a on dash mount. Just make sure to tie up the lines and make sure the connectors are waterproofed since it is on a boat....

I just wonder: can you put a standard automotive relay on your boat?
