#1 DragonFable
Tev (and Nitram by proxy) got me interested in this web-based game (http://www.dragonfable.com). It is free to play, but if you want some of the special stuff, you have to cough up real money to upgrade your account.
With that said, it is fairly addicting. There are some balance issues with the character classes available, and there are some other minor flaws - overall, this is a fun RPG to play.
There are three starting classes - Warrior, Rogue, and Mage. Warrior and Rogue rely primarily on Strength for damage, with some Dexterity here and there for a skill or two. Mages rely on Intelligence instead for damage. Endurance gives all three classes more HP, Luck gives you bonuses with Mini-games and gives you Critical Hits more often, and Charisma increases your pet's and Allies' damage, and also helps with other mini-games.
There are special classes to get, and all three starting characters can get any of the upgraded classes, which include Pirate, Ninja, Dragonlord, Necromancer, Paladin, Ranger, and Deathknight, though some skills will vary according to what your starting class was.
Overall, I'd recommend it. 'Tis fun.

I've been messing aroudn with it off and on for a while, though I have not paid for the upgraded version.
Overall it's an okay time waster for a little bit, but I'm not so fond of it that I'd recommend it whole heartedly. The combat gets a bit repetitive, and running around setting yourself up every time you log in gets old quickly. Perhaps those with paid accounts have a better time.

Paying doesn't eliminate those features, unfortunately. However, there is a shopkeeper in Falconreach that can "save" your equipment setup at least, as well as which Town you begin at when you login, but you'll still need to get your pet and Allies each time.General Havoc wrote:Overall it's an okay time waster for a little bit, but I'm not so fond of it that I'd recommend it whole heartedly. The advanced classes cannot be completed by free accounts, as each one has a Dragon Amulet-required skill or three, just FYI.

I'm one of those RPG players that play for the Story. As such, DragonFable offers a Great Storyline, imho. Yeah, grinding gets old, which is a bitch, but at least with the Randomized Quests you can pick up from Artix and other NPCs, it's not that bad. You're at least getting -some- changes in the grind, instead of just walking up and down a treeline waiting for a random battle to jump out at you.
BTW: for Grinding, the best fun is the Battle for Moonridge. Those who have their Dragon Amulet and their Baby Dragon can drop anti-Undead bombs down upon the heads of the invading zombies. You only get one bomb per wave, but if you drop the bomb in the right spot, you get a chain reaction of exploding monsters. Plus, it's a lot easier than the similar quest Sir Bombaud gives you in front of OakLore castle. Less ground to cover, and easier to set up the chain.

I've gotten a friend of mine very thoroughly hooked on this game. He even plays it at work, and his Warrior is now already level 20!
I've currently explored more since my post, but not enough to consider myself well-traveled in the game yet, and 'tis just as much fun, if not more so. The tongue-in-cheek humor, as well as an intricate and interesting plot make this worthwhile for me.
I will say that my mage is much less fun to play than my warrior or rogue, though.

Nitram's been letting me play with his Mage. While they do have a lot of 'bring the pain' it's annoying that they have nothing that hits everyone at once.
The fun part is trying out the other armors. I have my base Warrior all powered up, I have the Paladin Armor powered up, and I've nearly completed my DragonLord armor.
But I've ran into a snag In the SandSea, there's an Undead Mummy Dragon with 2000+ HP inside a tomb, and he heals from Light Damage and absorbs nearly everything else. Dark damage does +50%, but I don't have a good Dark-element weapon. In order to continue the Story-Quest, I have to beat him up.

The elemental caves near Warlic, and some of the quests Thursday from Amityville gives you can potentially give you a good Darkness weapon. By "good" I mean has decent damage, and bonuses the ordinary Darkness weapons you can get from shops don't have.

Not sure if you're being facetious, but I've done that a couple times to get the end quest reward to be a sword (which happens to be Kage's Katana, the darkness one I use now). I got pretty good XP there, too.LadyTevar wrote:Oh yea! I can go beat up on the Werewolf! Great idea!

Artix and Valencia are becoming less useful as time goes on, I have to say. I hope more powerful allies become available.
The Paladin class is cool - if you're fighting nothing but undead. The Necromancer class is fun, and the Death Knight class is pretty cool. I'm now getting curious about the Pirate and Ninja classes, since by the time I finish them my Warrior should be level 21, and be able to complete the Dragonlord class.

Like the Paladin, DeathKnight, and Necromancer, the Pirate and Ninja armors can be powered up by handing over the rewards gained in random quests. Nitram has the Pirate armor, and he says it's got Guns. I haven't done the Ninja one yet.
Have you been to the new town yet?

Yeah - not much there yet. However, the prospect of a Dragonslayer class is certainly intriguing...
I spoke to Nitram briefly today, and when asked what his favorite class is so far, his answer was without hesitation: "Necro."
Being that I came here from SDN and survived there for more than a year first, I accepted his opinion, but tested it myself. And, a fully powered-up Deathknight is...somewhat lackluster, honestly. I played the Necro again, and I instantly remembered why I was laughing evilly to myself as I was playing as one last night. This class is just so smilingly laden with schadenfreude that it's difficult to not enjoy even the most mundane of grinds. *happy sigh*
Oh yes, and the Deathknight requires you to wear Deathknight armor and accessories to fully unlock one of the skills. This is made of fail.
After I catch up on the potion quests to my current level (I'm at 265 a healing potion now, with 4 more to go), I'm thinking of going for the Ninja classes first. I heard squawks of "OVERPOWERED" from the forums, so I naturally became curious...

NINJA V/S PIRATE MONKEY WAR!!!
Yes, it's as funny as it sounds. I've tried both sides, but I'm sticking with the pirates. Why? They have funnier animations, and they're the underdogs right now.
But seriously, how can you not enjoy a Stun attack with this message?
Ninjas have got nothing that sweet!

And the Multi-Attack for the Pirates is a CANNON. Your character sits down to enjoy a bananna as two of your mates roll the cannon up, take aim and fires a third monkey into the ninjas, doing 30-40 damage to every enemy.Pirate Monkey wrote:"Look Over There!"

Yeah, we just cut shit.
The Pirate vs. Ninja Monkey war is great for Defender medals, which you need a shitload of to get the awesome necklace and ring.

YES! I finally beat Mumragon! Had to go master Necromancer armor to do it, but I DID IT!
And then I went and pwned Sek-Duat, and then beat down the DuneLord Sandworm Titan with my Dragon, even though she's not got all her powers yet! (She did have Heal and Regen Mana. Without those, I'd have been dead)
In short, I have Officially Completed the SandSea quests. So that makes Warwic's Zone, Amityville, Sho'Nuff Isle, FalconReach (Ash's Quests, Pet Quests, Weapon Quests), and the Necroschool that I've completed, all by Level 21.
I think I need more things to do

Oh, nearly forgot. A couple rare quests allow you to bring a friend, and you can also go 'visit' houses of friends. You just need their ID #

Malkamar: Warrior Lvl 32 ID# 9761654

If you have your Dragon, go see Celestia for the quest "The Long Walk"
You get to have your dragon walking WITH you on the screen, not only appearing in fights! (Artix is still invisible while walking, sorry)

That quest is fun - especially because it culminates with you beating the crap out of the Red Dragon that messed with you at the beginning of the game.
Caveats - you need a fully-trained adult Dragon, and a couple different good elemental swords couldn't hurt. Or, you could follow my lead and have a fully powered-up Light Axe and not give a shit, but to each their own.
One downside to the quest - since it involves you riding your adult Dragon at the end to fight Big Red, you'll end up naked and lonely at the end, with no equipment, no class, and no allies.
Other than that, you get a crapload of experience from the quest, and as the release said, that quest currently has the highest drop rate for the Special Dragon Chow, which feeds your baby dragon pet 5 points instead of 2 or 1 per day.
EDIT: "fight," not "right"

GODDAMIT!
Every time I do the long-walk I lose the Titan Fight.
Then, when I hit "RunAway", it STEALS ALL MY GAINED XP AWAY!
And I can't log into the forums to bitch about it!

Make sure you have a fully trained Dragon, as then the Ultimate Giant Monster Technique of Stomping becomes possible.LadyTevar wrote:GODDAMIT!

Now you just have to run it over and over again for the Special Dragon Chow.
