#1 Star Trek Armada 2

We all know the beloved Armada series of Star Trek RTS games, and how Armada 1 was the pinnacle of balance in the series.

Well, I am working on modding out STA2, for personal reasons. I've already managed to mod in the Connie Refit, Miranda, Excelsior, Nova, Ambassador, New Orleans and the Norway class ships. I'm going to be adding the Galaxy X, Centaur, Constellation and maybe one or two others soon enough.

What I'm looking to do now, is balance out the ship's various strengths and weaknesses, making it more about having a balanced fleet, than building large amounts of Soverigns, Negh'vars, etc.

So, what I need some assistance in deciding on how to properly mod the ship ODF files to make them more balanced.

I'm not going to place Connie Refit's with the same weapons power as a Soverign, for example, though I do want to improve the firepower of the Defiant class.

Also, I after I have the Federation done, I'm going to modify the Romulan, Cardassian and Klingons, adding in a few ships if I find appropriate models, (I'd love a Reman Warbird for the romulan side, minus the medusa radiation weapon), and converting the Borg and Species 8472 to the Empire and the Rebels.......

So..suggestions? comments? tips to those who have modded STA2 before?

Rescale all of the ships so that the scaling is accurate! :D

Working on that, I have the Peregrine Fighter's, for example, being small, very small, but still visible

The Oberth is smaller than the Connie Refit, which is smaller than the Excelsior, etc etc.
It'll take time, but everything will be redone soon.

You could always make (maybe?) the perigrines be the sise of the current defiants, and then scale up from there... :D

I dunno.. mebbe iz just me, but ever since the patch was released everytihg seemed so far away, even when I zoomed in a good amount. *le shrug*

I only have Armada I, myself... It was a fun game, cool plot with the Borg and USS Premonition too, but I got tired of how every battle (especially Skirmish) ended up being a "Sovereign/Negh'var rush" unless you wanted to take needless losses with the other classes of ships.

Actually, I preferred playing as the Romulans, since them using nothing but D'deridexes is reasonable anyway (not to mention the shield-draining weapon is the best thing ever!) and their cloakable artillery ships were soooooo effective at sieging the enemy Starbase... I loved using those ships.

Dart: trying doing a search on Amazon or Ebay for Star Trek Action Pack for the multipack with Armada 1&2 in it.

Ra: My primary thing about this mod, is to balance out everything, including the ships, not make it a Negh'var/Soverign/Keldon/etc rush.

My next project after balancing the Federation ships and resizing them to proper scale (and visibility), I'll be adding the Valdore and Reman Warbird (aka the Scimitar), rebalancing and reproportioning those ships, then changing the Cardassians to the Dominion, adding the Jem'hadar battle cruisers. assault ships and bug fighters, along with some Breen. The Klingons will be edited a bit, mostly for rebalance/rescaling, then I haven't decided if I'm going to add two new races, or covert the Borg and Species 8472 to the new races, I can go either way, just haven't decided yet.
