#1 Silly computer question re: tags

Post by The Minx »

I've managed to collect a rather large number of text files, images and flash files on my hard drive and am in a bit of trouble organizing them all.

So I was wondering how I add tags to files (since it is apparently possible to categorize files by "tags", only mine don't seem to have any. :???:

If all else fails, try the official homepage
Of course, if you're not using Vista/7, the problem might simply be files didn't HAVE tags back then.
Not that I see what's wrong with organizing files by type/file name and a proper directory structure.

Thanks for the tip, but here's a strange thing: there is no entry for tags in the "details" tab of the properties dialog box for the Flash files and some of the images (though there is for the text files). :???:

I'll probably be doing that.

I just thought that maybe tags would be useful since that way I can cross-reference different criteria without having to move back and forth through a directory structure.

'You cannot add or modify the file properties of some types of files.'
As someone who still uses XP I don't KNOW that that's the problem but it seems that the ability to apply tags is NOT something that universally applies to all file types.

Great, that just teaches me to pay better attention to the pages I read.

That's probably it, though. Seems kind of lame that tags can only be applied to some file types, but that's too bad.

I'll just use a traditional directory. Thanks for your help.
