(hat tip to Hotfoot for letting me know about this)

Though I really haven't been playing video games anywhere near as much as I used to, the game XCOM: UFO Defense still holds a special place in my heart.

All the "XCOM-alike" games I've seen are sorely lacking in one respect or another - but this game really does look to be true to the spirit of that old shrine of nostalgia, XCOM: UFO Defense.

The only downside is that the dev team mentioned that there won't be a Blaster Launcher analogue, which means no more creating your own doors in UFO's. On the other hand, it looks like they're balancing the game so soldiers' deaths are much less random, and much more dependent upon the tactics used. To me, that's a fair trade.

Invading through the official doors always worked fine with me, the ability to blow holes in the hull via the Blaster Launcher was fun but not really important. And I seem to recall crashed UFOs having plenty of entry points due to you know, having crashed, and there being holes in their hulls.

True - but there are certain times when you really want to make another entrance. However, I can let that go.

Oh, absolutely-especially for landed (as opposed to crashed, and how often did you bother to crash a battleship?) battleships. I'm just saying that it wasn't particularly important, not that it wasn't nice.
