When you're working with uncompressed video, you can easily start running into really huge files.

I want one. Or a couple. You know. For backup.

You could easily assemble a file server with comparable capacity and fault-tolerance (i.e. one of the hard drives dies) for probably at least a thousand dollars less than that LaCie box. One of the drives dies in that LaCie and all two terabytes bites it.

I've recently found that my data storage is not adequate, and I have something like 80 GB. I'm down to ~7 GB free space.

Well, most of that is taken up by er... movies. Of a sort. And games.

In other words, porn. Yeah, not so unusual. Thats the real reason for massive storage.

After working abit on movies, without even thinking of effects on them, I ran up 3GB of space. More room si better.

My dad just threw together a server with over a terabyte of storage.

Personally, I'd readily make use of that much room. Copying every DVD I have to hard disk for one.

Lets see here, not counting the ungodly expensive and powerful monstrosity I'm building... I've got *thinks* my laptop has 80gb+ the 120gb external, and my desktop has over 500gb spread across 3 drives.

Including the external, my laptop has *thinks and then checks* approximatly8gigs free. My desktop has less then 50.

I could use one of those suckers: My laptop has 2.5GB free, and my iPod has, like 600MB free.
