#1 CD/DVD player issues

Post by Batman »

I just recently found out that my CD player is really reluctant to play my CDs. Now I didn't go through my entire collection so its is possible I just happened to pick out the disks that were damaged, but there's no visible damage to the CDs that wasn't there 6 months ago, and those same CDs work like a charm on my PC (other than Media Player apparently being incapable of playing audio tracks in chronological order).
Now ordinarily I'd just blame that on both of them being pretty damned old and just breaking down ( I bought that DVD player in '03 and the CD player is massively older than that) but the DVD player still plays DVDs as it should (mostly), it just won't play the CDs, and both the CDs and the DVDs work a-OK on my PC so I don't think the problem is damaged disks.

And now the CD player plays them just fine. I think my problem is my hardware just plain hates me.

What disc was it that caused the issue? It's possible your hardware has suddenly developed a case of good taste.

Now this may just be me, but I figure someone whose networth was somewhere in the multi-billions could afford to just go ahead and replace any such small minor electronic device. I mean when you can go out and just buy the company that produced the offending electronics and possibly a significant portion of the country the company was founded in, whats $50 for a new DVD player?

Alas, they don't take DCU money in the real world.
And while you are quite correct than even on real world budgets those items aren't all that expensive anymore, I'm dubious that paying for a pure CD player makes sense these days what with DVD players being able to do the job, and as a DVD player the DVD player seems to be working for the time being, and I'm not sure I can get region code switchable/region code free anymore.
Also, as there's still a lot of discs the CD player will happily play it appears to be a combination of disc and player degradation.
