Bush's best moment in office? Reeling in big fish
08 May 2006

BERLIN: US President George W Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 3.4 kilo perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday. Bush said the worst moment was September 11 when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

"In such a situation it takes a while before one understands what is happening," Bush said. "I would say that this was the hardest moment, once I had the real picture before my eyes."

Because Bild could not immediately furnish English quotes, Bush's comments were translated from the German. The paper said the White House planned to release an authorised English version of the interview on Monday.
I think that's just sad.

Actually... I get it. Think about it, he's been pretty much under seige (yes it's his own damn fault) since 2000. Also take a look at some before and after pictures of presidents, the job ages you fast. Everyone agrees that it's a stressful job, hell it killed FDR and would very likey have killed Kenndy.

And... let's be honest, history is going to record him as the President who won in spite of himself and divided the nation very deeply and he earned every drop of that. I don't frankly share the common belief that he's a complete and utter moron, I think that belief is what allowed him to win 2004 and clamp such iron control in his first term. I think a part of him as to realize how history is going to record him and perhaps a small part of him knows he deserves it.

Given all that is it so far fetched that his favorite moment in the Presidentcy is one where he was as far away from his mistakes as possible?

I don't believe that he's a complete and total moron. No, dispite my rants and raves I honestly can't believe that. As stupid and as gullible as the american populace is as a whole I don't want to be forced to believe that we would elect a complete and total retard for president twice. The first term I believe he won through dumb luck and that he was more charasmatic then his main opponent. He goes off the "I'm a simple down home kinda guy" image that a lot of people can or would like to identify with. The second term I want to believe that he was simply better then his opponent. Because as much as I loathe Bush, I have to concede that we would be worse off with Kerry.

But, dispite the above I believe that his actions have warrented every bit of disdain for him. If his best moment as president for nearly eight years is fishing... if his best moment is talking about a god damned perch, how can anyone hold any respect for the man?

Yes, I understand that taking a break from work is a good thing to think of and remember but I sure as hell don't classify the best moment of my air force career as that time I went on leave and did shit...
