28-year-old Lona Collins.

Lona Collins, of 511 Cypress St., a social-studies teacher with just less than three years experience at Thibodaux High who also headed the school’s cheerleading squad, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, according to police.

Police withheld the boy’s identity because of his age.

“In speaking to the 16-year-old student and Ms. Collins, we have verified that a lude and lascivious act did occur by Ms. Collins with this 16-year-old male student,â€

Quick, here goes the obligatory "why aren't there teachers like that at MY school?' post.

Because rapists are such a desirable thing to have. I, too, grow tired of seeing those stupid posts.

And this type of thing has been popping up like one a damn week lately. It is rather disturbing.

We're desperate for teachers these days. The standards are so low in some places, it's no wonder that we get some nutters.

Anyone with the skills to be a teacher and the dedication to make it through the school necessary are much better suited by finding employment elsewhere, with higher pay, lower stress, and less actual time working.

It's not exactly rape as it's generally defined; if said teacher's attractiveness is indeed all there, then it was undoubtedly consensual. However, legally and morally it's highly wrong; whether the boy was raped or not is irrevelant compared to that.

It's nigh' on impossible to get a job as a teacher in the area I'm from. Supremely German/Catholic area. You can tell by the monasteries and convents. Not to mention the fact that some towns only have ONE (a catholic, of course) church.

What does that have to do with teaching? Freaking Germans NEVER retire. They die first, a lot of the time, to be perfectly honest. As such, teaching is NOT a viable profession here, because we're overstocked. I'm given to understand that places like Florida, Arizona, and Alaska are desperate (AK has starting salaries of like 50K for primary and secondary ed.)

Also: Someone should check the numbers, is this really happening more, or is it just in the news more? Like at the time of Columbine and that little 'rash' of shootings, the actual numbers were down, but the media coverage was way up.

And um...That newspaper spelled lewd incorrectly :P
