Multiple explosions.

Several people have been injured after explosions blamed on a power surge led to the whole London Underground network being closed down.

British Transport Police said some of the power surges had caused explosions.

Surges took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations.

A spokesman said there were "walking wounded" at Liverpool Street station but one person's life was reported to be "at risk".

London Fire Brigade said four crews were at Liverpool Street and more were on their way.

A British Transport Police spokesman said that emergency services were dealing with reports of an explosion at 0849 BST on the Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate.

One passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.

"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."

Eyewitness Paul Woloszyn from BBC News, who was at Blackhorse Road station on the Victoria Line, said: ""We were told there was a bomb at Liverpool Street station.

"I was on the Tube, and they stopped the train and told everyone to get off an evacuated the station."

He said staff had said the entire Tube network had been affected, and leaflets had been handed out with details of alternative bus routes.

Another eyewitness, Dorothy Molloy, had been on a Tube train at King's Cross and said "staff just chucked everyone out of the station".

She said staff there had not given any details, but she said two passengers she had spoken to had said they had received messages saying there had been bombs.

"People didn't really know what was going on, they were just huffing and puffing and saying how annoying it was," she said.

"People don't seem to be panicked, but there's so many police and ambulances coming into the areas. People are just concerned, and some are just annoyed at the delay."

The cell network was shut down, last I heard. Potential of cell-detonated bombs.

But I haven't heard any reports that landlines are down.

BBC has given the credit to al-Qaeda, who claimed it on a web site.

The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.

The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

The group is previously unknown.

The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.

Oh that's what they call it. And here was I thinking it was a cowardly attack on unarmed civilians. I generally take a fairly pacifist outlook on things, but when things like this happen, I long to get hold of the fuckers responsible and beat the life out of them with a blunt object. Then I get frustrated when I realise that, even in their dying moments, they will never understand what they have done.

It makes me sick when I think of the damage caused by people everywhere who seek power over others and don't care what they destroy to get it.

The folks who carry out this sort of atrocity don't hold to our values. By their lights, the people they killed were subhuman infidels anyway.

That's what we're facing here. They don't make distinctions between soldier and civilian because as far as they're concerned, we're all deserving of death and damnation.

I personnally do not care what they think. Who gives a damn why mad dogs bite? You do not seek to appease a rabid beast, or speak with it, you simply destory it before it can harm others.

Again and again they have proven themselves to be rabid. To be in a very real sense, mad dogs without compassion or care. There is no comproise with such has these, there is only victory or death.

I wish Blair and the citizens of the UK good hunting and hope that my government will reder every possible aide.

I thought about making a witty comic book superhero comment but every last one I came up with only seemed to mock the people who got hurt or killed in those attacks.
You have my condolences, my sympathies, my rage.
Is there any particular reason why we still consider those people human?

Detective, the only good comment I can think you'd say about this is...."Guns....make.....me.....angry"

exchange "guns" for "Terrorist" and add in a few choice explitives and threats....in the way only you can do so, and you start to approximate something which won't make fun of the injured and dead from these acts.
