#1 Kerry Belittles US Troops

So apparently US troops amount to morons and uneducated idiots in Mr. Kerry's book. Nice, that. Considering most of the enlisted I serve with have degrees, I'm only a few credits shy of my associates and already have a technical degree in aerospace avionics specializing in radio communication and navigation systems.

How is it that the guy who lost the election makes me regret voting for him more and more?

Actually, the jab was made at Bush. In a fuller context, you can see all the other jabs at Bush he made. He slipped and botched the joke a bit, but I think it's clear he was making a jab a Bush.
Not that the Republicans want you to think that. He responded pretty vehemently today as well.

I do wish the clip was longer. But if that was a swipe at Jr. (Hey Asshole, why the fuck weren't you swiping in 2004 you moron!) Then he needs to fire his speechwriter. Jr isn't in Iraq. We aren't that lucky.

Apparently the fault was his, not the speechwriter's. What he was
supposed to say (courtesy of Cairber over at SDN) was
I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq.

One of the hazards of public speaking is occasionally fucking up your lines. I may speak to smaller crowds, but I still have some outrageous fuckups on bits I do 3-5 times a day.

He may say he was stating that towards Dubya and he may well have meant it, but damn it that's pretty fucking insulting to the troops. His fuckup just called the armed services a bunch of uneducated fuckups. I don't exactly appreciate that, slip of tongue or not.
Looks like Mr. Swiftboat aint to fucking swift himself...
Edit: And it's not often times that I will agree with those fuckheads in office but on this one I do however. Kerry needs to make some sort of formal appology/retraction.
Instead the fucker does nothing but bitch about how the GOP is using it as political ammo and how he "shouldn't be lectured by a bunch of stuffed shirts in office or doughy Rush Limbah."
Fucker is lucky he's not up for re-election this year because I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that he could make it after this fuckup and lack of apology. I can understand slips of tongue but on one of this size you should have at least the balls to fess up to your fuckup and try to rationalize the situation to people instead of going and whining like a bitch that someone is using it against you.

Either that, or he was trying to hint at a draft.

May I suggest we not bring up the swiftboaters B4? Those fuckers weren't excaltly playing a clean game themselves.

You know, it may seem odd, given how much shit Bush gets for being a poor public speaker in general, but don't you think there should be some consideration for flubbing something?
Even without that, I've seen the extended video, and it seemed pretty clear to me he was going after Bush, even /with/ the flub. It's even clearer after his press conference today.
Unfortunately, the videos don't seem to be up anywhere yet. However, if you'd like to catch them, there's a repeat of Countdown with Keith Olbermann at midnight tonight.
So clarify for me: if people are asking that he should apologize to the troops when he insulted the president, does that parse? He already clearly said that he had no intention of insulting the troops, so why is there an apology needed?

All rectangles are squares!
He misspoke. He admits he misspoke. Later on, he said again and again what he actually meant and that he honours the troops.
Moreover, even if you take what he did say, he did not say all troops are uneducated. He said, which again, he did not mean, that if you are stupid, you end up in Iraq. That does not mean all people in Iraq are uneducated. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

It was meant as nothing more then a play on names/words.
As for whether or not the appology is needed, or leeway given for the "flub". Fuck that. I consider Bush a fucking moron because he speaks like he's failed hooked on phonics and dropped out after the 8th grade. The man has the public speaking ability of a retarded kindergartener and I think he's a fucking moron for it! So no, I do not give any more or less room for error to other public officials. If you're going to be speaking on behalf of a political party or group of people at least have the ability to correctly state your opinions and speeches and not fuck them up. You see people, if you properly use your education and you make an effort to be smart you can do this, otherwise you go into politics and fuck up.
So yes, I still think there needs to be a formal apology. All I've seen from him so far is him weasling his way out "Oh noes, the republicans are being asshats for making fun of me for my fuckup. I meant it about Bush so it's all good, really. Don't lecture me about my fuckups, you fuckups."
Again, fuck 'em.

Ah, Kerry. Where was your fucking spine and balls in 2004? Right, you had none. You got 'em back because now you aren't thinking it's smart to play Republi-Lite.
God. Kerry pisses me off. He's that Fair Weather Democrat, who constantly shifts by the polls.

Kerry makes direct apology to troops
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry apologized directly to U.S. troops on Wednesday for comments about Iraq that had prompted a firestorm of criticism from Republicans and President George W. Bush.
"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.
Kerry said earlier in the day he was sorry for a "botched joke" about Bush that was interpreted as a slam on the U.S. military. Republicans demanded a more direct apology and seized on Kerry's comments to students as a sign of Democratic weakness on national security.
Kerry told students in California on Monday that if they study hard they could do well but if they did not, "you get stuck in Iraq." His office said he misread his remarks and intended to say "You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."
There, he knows he fucked up, he's sorry he fucked up. Now can we talk about real news?
