Nit, it's not that the military is now run as a business. The public is just becomming aware of this fact.

Hell the AF has been a corporate entity for a decade or more. There are squadrons on my base that have more civilian employees then actual Airmen. I can easily name over two dozen in my squadron alone...

It didn't start with the Democrats. It's a decline that has been in effect for a long long time.

To be blunt the person I blame for starting the trend is Security of Defense McNamara back in the 1960s, he believed that using business management skills would create a more efficient and less wasteful military. He was fought every inch of the way. While he was a democrat, to be blunt it doesn't really matter, his military policies had nothing to do with party affilication.

Every adminsteration after that without fail continued or extended the policy of business management. In varing degrees. For example the policy was relaxed sigificently when Regan was President, Bush Sr was ambivient. During the Clinton adminsteration a generation of officers who believed that business management was the right way to go came into power. Clinton who was at times either more concerned with using the military for social engineering, domenstic policy or politics didn't really intervene to much in that.

Jr and Rummy (you may feel free to call him a servant of Satan if you wish) backed the business majors in uniform , Rummy did it because he was one of them and they were mostly devoted to Transformeration as a ideology and policy, Jr did it because he pretty got his military policy from Cheney (the Satan in question) and Rummy.

I can't comment on the company. It could be alot of things like

A: The buercracy that keeps confusing for a poor guy in Minnisoda fucked up again.

B: The situtation has changed to a point where the company has to go now despite everyone's best intentations. That happens.

C: Someone lied to Gates.

D: Gates lied.

E: Some asshole Captain company commander volunteered the company to get brownie points

F: They're not really in the pike, someone made a mistake and the Army officals have no idea what the reporters are talking about are using sloans to keep them at bay until they find out what the fuck is going on (this does actually happen but not that often, there's a reason this is at the bottom of the list).
