This one has a bit more than just the attorney scandal I usually did. But people put guns to my head to post, so I wanted lots of content.
Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs, 'Perfect' Peter Pace is out. SecDef Gates is saying he didn't want to face a re-confirmation hearing for another two years. Apparently, we shouldn't judge these people by asking them what, precisely, they acheived in the past two years. Admiral Mike Mullen appears to be the name being floated.
The DoJ bullshit continues! In the latest document dump, we discover that the Federalist Society personally requested one of the removals; wait, what? And not for performance issues, of course. They weren't pursuing 'voter fraud' aggressively enough. Monica Goodling also appears, having requested that the delegation of power that was used to keep this purge going was transferred to her.. ANd I quote.. 'Outside The System'. Gee, that don't sound suspicious, does it?
Democrat Jefferson from Lousiana is indicted, and the Congress has responded by putting forth a bill that will automatically strip committee chairs from indicted lawmakers. For those who think it's not enough, the House probably doesn't have the power to force a state to lose one of it's duly elected representatives.
'War Czar' Lute is in the depths of his hearings now, and it's still unclear what the hell his job is, though he described it as a direct link to the President without bueracratic steps in between. So what, the self-appointed 'Commander Guy' needs a tech support guy for the fight?
Following the tragic loss of one of Wyoming's Senators earlier this week, names are now being floated for the appointed replacement. Wyoming law requires the replacement be a Republican, and as we didn't expect neopitism, Lynne Cheney... Richard Cheney's wife.. Is being floated.
The immigration bill, a giveaway to big business and a big 'FUCK YOU' to immigrant families(The current system of favouring a family together would be replaced with a 'points system' favouring educated workers), the conservative base(Amnesty for current illegals), and legal immigrants(No reform of the INS) has died stillborn in the Senate. Good fucking riddance.
Newt's famous tantrum appears ready to reappear: Because the Dem-held Senate is not approving Bush's judicial nominees fast enough, threats are being made of a total shutdown of the Senate. Not that they're being postponed indefinately, they apparently just don't wield the rubber stamp with enough gusto.
And just because you thought the corruption of every post he could appoint someone to was done, Bush has nominated an Attorney General who beleives, among other things, that you can Pray The Gay Away. James W. Holsinger is currently being criticized by both APA's and the AMA.
We close with something bizarre. A bill whose sole purpose is to prevent human cloning was put forth by the Democrats in the House. Okay, fine. Current cloning technology has no place near humans. It was killed by the GOP. The reason given is that the bill does not ban a process known as 'Somatic cell nuclear transfer', which allows the creation of embryonic stem cells. They argue it's a form of human cloning. This is like the silly 'Partial Birth Abortion' ban, which, by the way, is not a medical term at all.
