[quote]THE grandfather of a baby taken into care immediately after he was born is accusing social services of discriminating against his daughter because she has a form of autism.

The baby’s 21-year-old mother has Asperger’s Syndrome, a condition associated with problems concerning social and communication skills.

The grandfather, who lives in South Wales but cannot be identified for legal reasons, said, “Within hours of the baby being born two weeks ago, social workers arrived at the hospital and served papers on my daughter saying they would be applying for an interim care order. She was beside herself.

“Two weeks before what should have been the happiest day of her life, we as a family attended a case conference where Monmouthshire County Council placed the unborn baby on an ‘at risk’ register. Their argument was that because she has Asperger’s Syndrome, she is at risk of getting post-natal depression, and that there would therefore be the likelihood of her neglecting the baby.

“In my view, all this stress sent my daughter into labour four weeks early.

“At the court case, the odds were obviously stacked against us and the interim care order was granted. My daughter has gone with her baby to a foster carer in a remote part of South Wales, which it takes several hours to get to by public transport from where we live. Both her partner and me are greatly restricted in the times we are allowed to visit.â€

There are a good number of know Asperger's parents who raised healthy, mentally and emotionally stable children. To put it bluntly this is nothing more then a exercise in government power over it's citizen.

I find this alarming in a nation that has already decided to scatter cameras all over the place and disarm those citizens.

It's a flagrant abuse of power on the Councils behalf. When this reaches the court, I imagine the decision will be overturned quicker than you can say 'sued for millions for massive discrimination"

Asperger's syndrome has a HUGE range of severity there are individuals who are just socially incompetent and have a large difficulty in understanding other people's emotions and putting others before themselves. All autistic disorders are like this but the thing that makes it different is intelligence, people with Asperger's are incredibly smart and usually hyper focus on something, many of them find mathematics. The thing is many of them can find jobs using these talents, sometimes they just require a little more patience and a bit of help. But this woman who seems to be able to interact fairly well (obviously not a severe case of Asperger's) has a more than adequate support network and honestly I find it quite disturbing that no one can see something that evident.

Just a quick by the by. This story has not appeared anyway other than that website, nothing appears on the BBC, Guardian, Telegraph, Mail, or even the bloody Sun. This story appeared last weekend on SDN, and no one has seen it shown anywhere else.

So folks, take everything you read with some salt

On the flip side Dart, this is the tale of a single women with a mental disorder squabbling with local authorities. I dare say that the various other organizations you've mentioned have found other things to report.

You think so? Every part of this country is covered by a part of the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and they all contribute to the main news, website and other such things. And mental health is a huge issue over here these days.

So you think, with so many different media groups that focus on that area of the country, in a land where the Underdogs gets the most support, that this would not have popped up elsewhere?

I am still looking mind, but that website is still the only one that pops up, on a multitude of search engines.

Just checked on google with that articles headline, several pick up on it, but they are all blog journalists and they all link to that one website.

I'm not saying its not true, but I would like anouther source before I believe it completely.

What's CAS like in the UK? In Canada their pretty much an authority unto themselves with little checks on their power save for the courts. Meaning if they pull something like this you have to go through the courts to get your kid back.
