An interesting debate has started to emerge in recent years about if the UK should get over its "colonial guilt" and try and become more involved in international affairs (beyond supporting the US) One of the main causes of this opinion is the number of people starting to get annoyed at our lack of action Over Zimbabwe

Gordon Brown, as has been noted on this forum, has declared that he will not attend any meetings where Robert Mugabe is present.

So, should Britain try and sort out the messes left behind in our fairly rapid withdrawal from its former territories? Many have gone on to great things, places such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and India now becoming powers all on their own.

Opinions, thoughts? For me and many of my generation, we were the first proper generation not have some sort of global presence, and the voices now calling for us to get a backbone both interests me due to my active interest in our history, as well as confusing me: Why did they never come out of the woodwork before?

I'd love for the UK to get more involved in world affairs and it's former colonies, though I was under the impression that many of them were part of the Comonwealth anyways. As long as they don't continue to be the US lapdog it can't be a bad thing.
