Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.
"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."
Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.
When not comparing things, do not say 'A is like B'. That's inherently a comparison.

This isn't stupid, it's a calculated move. If the Republicans wish to stand any hope of winning in November, they need to rally the base, all of it. Problem is, the fundies don't like McCain, and with good reason, he's not one of them. This presents a problem for the GOP. That they are comparing McCain, of all people, to the fucking Christ, of all people, smells of desperation, and boy does it smell good.

This comparison fails on many levels, but primarily at a more practical level - With an inability to raise his arms past his elbows, crucifying McCain would be quite difficult indeed.
