"ATLANTA, Ga -- Atlanta authorities say a 17-year-old boy was decapitated at Six Flags Over Georgia when he hopped two fences into a restricted area and was struck by the popular theme park ride, the Batman roller coaster.
The accident took place at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday. Hela Sheth, a spokesperson for the park says the boy was struck by the Batman ride while it was in operation.
In a statement, Sheth said the teen scaled two six-foot fences that were clearly marked with signs that read "Danger" and "Do Not Enter."
Police were investigating whether he entered the restricted area to retrieve a hat he may have dropped while riding the coaster.
Sheth says an off-duty Marrietta Police officer saw the accident and called 9-1-1.
The teenager was part of a Baptist church group visiting the park from Springfield, S.C. Sheth says the victim's family was also at the park with him.
The park says they plan to reopen the Batman ride on Monday."
They're saying now he jumped the fences to go back into the park after eating lunch. Having been there (last weekend), I can tell you it's probably over 1/4 mile to the entrance. But still, it's stupid to jump a fence marked "Danger: Do Not Enter," especially when you KNOW it's dangerous.
Darwin awards? I think we have a winner...
