I wonder why people continue to reproduce, if these are the conditions you would be bringing a child into.

Innate biological drive, its hard to fight seems to over rule logic or common sense sometimes, that and contraceptive methods are too expensive for people in these situations.

That, and in poor conditions, people are like birds. They produce more kids than they can feed in the long term as an insurance policy in case of infant mortality, and to maximize genetic variance (I guarantee most of the kids dont have the same father)

Let's not forget that the Catholic Church isn't under represented in Haiti and that for these folks, their kids are their "take care of me in my old age" plan.
