A new SurveyUSA poll in Virginia shows Sen. Barack Obama has moved to a six point lead over Sen. John McCain, 51% to 45%. Compared to a similar poll two weeks ago, Obama is up 4, McCain is down 4.

Key findings: "In the Washington DC suburbs, Obama now polls at 59% and leads McCain by 21 points. Obama leads by 10 in Southeast VA and by 4 in Central VA. McCain's regional advantage is confined to the Shenandoah, where he is 14 points atop Obama."

"Among women, Obama led by 6 points before Sarah Palin was named to the GOP ticket, now leads by 16."

That last stat is the one that interests me.

This poll has something of a reputation for wild swings, but assume for a second that they're vastly overstating the matter, and that what they read as a 10-point shift among women is actually only half that. That's still a huge backswing, precisely the opposite of what sort of thing I assume Sarah Palin was expected to do for the Republicans when she was selected.

Here's to hoping this represents something real.

Word is getting out. Palin is among those who tried to disrupt an abortion clinic's operation. Let's keep in mind while many agree with things like banning third trimester abortions, the majority are fine with it, and women can see she's pushing for women to become an underclass. Palin just fantasizes she is somehow exempt.

It's not a fantasy. To paraphrase the Duchess "the aristocracy operates by different rules". Most people like to believe that they're in that elite, but she's a Republican governor and VP candidate so that belief is sadly correct. That, of course, leaves 98% of women screwed and so naturally when that stuff starts to make an impression Palin's numbers are going to drop.

There are many people who agree with things like restrictions on third trimester abortions. Palin believes in abolition of abortion in general, and the criminalization of those who pursue it as an option. There is a wide gulf between the mainstream and what Palin advocates, and my hope is that people are beginning to realize that.

Even that wouldn't be so objectionable to me if the woman wasn't mired in corruption and scandal and clearly a follower of the Bush doctrine. No, not the pre-emptive strike Bush Doctrine, the "Laws apply only to lesser people, everything I do is right because I say it is, I know what's best for you and everyone else and nobody is allowed to question me" doctrine.

Oh, and she's as ignorant as a three-toed sloth...
