The website Change.gov is already up and operational, only 48 hours after President-Elect Obama has won the Presidency.

Yeah, I'm impressed.

Two possibilities:

1) The numbers were on their side. They knew they were going to win, so someone started making the site ahead of time so they could roll it out quickly.

2) I often commented that Obama apparently never sleeps, ever. It would seem that no one around him or working for him sleeps, either. I know that at least one of the campaign offices in Florida worked a 25 hour day when the clocks were set back.

Obama's campaign has always been playing five or six moves ahead. It's not that he was confident he'd win, it was that he wanted to make sure there was never any frenzied rush anywhere after he started his campaign. The last 21 months have shown he was right to do this.

As Nitram said, they've had a lot of time to throw this together and they had a lot of this material up already in their campaign websites and no shortage of talent. The resources to do this were easily available and this is just another sign that Obama really fucking knows how to run a campaign.

isn't that how it always was until Bush Jr got in there?

I hope and expect that Obama's ability to plan ahead in the campaign will extend into the way he runs the country. Would be a pleasant change from the Bush administration's inability to think past next month.

*over-the-top gasp* You mean thinking long-term actually works!

Seriously, I hope it continues to be expressed in his Presidency as well.

I do have to cringe at the quote on the top of the page by Obama:
Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today
This makes it sound like his end goal is just to make a minor improvement.

It should really be:
Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is at least a little bit better than the one we inhabit today

No, the quote is fine. It's one of the themes he's been working at steadily for the past twenty-one months. If you in fact had your head under a rock, it is the same theme as 'A More Perfect Union', while acknowledging it would not be a Perfect Union. Or acknowledging it might not be done in his first term.

In short, this man ran an arguably flawless campaign and has drawn tens of thousands. You really aren't in a position to nitpick.

A little comment box for sending in suggestions. Yes, seriously. I don't know if it'll do any good, but I put in some good words for nuclear power (for energy and combating global warming).
