I am not a Sarah Palin fan.
That said, I value truth and honesty above other things, and thus I feel obligated to post the following article from the NYT:
[quote]It was among the juicier post-election recriminations: Fox News Channel quoted an unnamed McCain campaign figure as saying that Sarah Palin did not know that Africa was a continent.
Who would say such a thing? On Monday the answer popped up on a blog and popped out of the mouth of David Shuster, an MSNBC anchor. “Turns out it was Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, who has come forward today to identify himself as the source of the leaks,â€

Good grief, where to start.
The source claimed was a lie. This != the claim was a lie.
My sound is useless, what is to the so-called explanation for knocking a research grant that advanced the understanding of Autism?

That the source was a lie shows that people who distributed the claim should have checked their facts better. This includes me, since I posted a thread with this claim earlier in the forum.SirNitram wrote:Good grief, where to start.

I don't like it when I turn out to have made a false claim, and so I was at trying to point out my earlier mistake. I was NOT claiming that SP wasn't anti-science after all.
The research grant she knocked turned out to be one on fruit flies as a pest creature, and threat to agriculture, not fruit fly genetic research, apparently.

Here's a simple reason why the Eisenstadt hoax should be ignored here. The Minx wrote:That the source was a lie shows that people who distributed the claim should have checked their facts better. This includes me, since I posted a thread with this claim earlier in the forum.

He's not the original source. Carl Cameron, the man who broke the story, never identified him, post or pre, as the source. Now think carefully. You have a damaging story against an up and coming name, and your 'disrespect' of her is triggering your core viewership, the conservative base, to stop watching. What is most efficient to get back on their good side? Proclaim it's all a hoax by proving one part of later confirmation was a hoax.
My sound is out, so what is the evidence, precisely, on the fruit fly bit? Just going 'Oh, it was a different study' without citing much of anything about it is very thin. Oh, right. She didn't mention any specific study at all. So there's no way to claim it's somehow this specific study. And so the pushback to tidy up all the outright nonsense she spewed goes on..

I honestly would't mind at all that it were revealed that this turned out to be bogus and the initial story on the stupidity of Sarah Palin stands. I can't think of a current politician I detest more than her.SirNitram wrote:Here's a simple reason why the Eisenstadt hoax should be ignored here. The Minx wrote:That the source was a lie shows that people who distributed the claim should have checked their facts better. I don't think it needs more to trash it than the simple fact that A != B. A 'source' quoted for followup but not in the original turns out fake, doesn't affect the integrity of the initial reporting. Though it's very easy to spin like a top and distract until it sounds right.

OK... just in the hopes of this getting put to rest somehow.
Regarding the fruit fly research thing: she specifically said "fruit fly research in Paris, France."
This may refer to the following: link
Note the wording of the top item. Then go here: link
Of course, she could have specified more clearly, but on the face of it, it does seem possible. I have yet to find a more complete clip of her speech to scrutinize whether any further specifications or indications as to what grant she meant were made.

The CAGW is not a reputable group in general.. They put 'Funds for the VA secured by earmark' in the same category as 'Bridge to Nowhere, Alaska, earmark'... But this seems up and up. Mind you, it's not like Palin didn't secure her town a personal earmark lobbyist before she left being mayor.
