[quote]Agency is so understaffed, it inspects less than 1 percent of imported food

The Food and Drug Administration may be the only federal agency that both political parties agree is in desperate need of an overhaul.

President Barack Obama is promising action, though progress has been slow in the first 100 days. His choice to head the FDA — Dr. Margaret Hamburg — still has not been confirmed by congress.

Assuming Hamburg is confirmed, she will head an agency whose own Science Board concluded more than two years ago “is at risk of failing to carry out its mandate, leaving our citizens at risk of grievous harm.â€

Another casualty of the confirmation tantrum being thrown. Also missing: The people who actually make the decisions over TARP money(The current group is the old group.. Hand-picked by Bush and Paulson), and the Secretary of HHS, which, yanno, might be handy to have with an outbreak of flu.

As any President had a first 100 days filled with such warfare? I mean Obama made some slip ups yeah, but nothing really that big (besides dude got us an island from Hugo, I'm prepared to cut slack for an island).

Meanwhile the Republicians seemed dead set on fighting him on anything and everything... To the death.

Meanwhile a good number of his own party seems committed to preventing from letting him doing anything that is drastic (you know... like he promised?).

Meanwhile the manic left seems bound and determined on destroying him for not being one of them.

I've been accused of developing bunker mentality over less. The fact that he hasn't committed to utter warfare against the rest of the politicos is a wonder to me. I've would have been reaching for knives by now.

I'm not sure I'm being metaphorical there.
