September is normally the busiest month for hurricanes. In that regard, it does not surprise me at all. I can remember quite a few late hurricanes just off the top of my head. Ivan last year, and Opal a few before that. Heck, I think Opal hit in October.

As a useless factoid, if we go all the way through W in hurricane names this year, which we well might do as there's still over a month to go, the next set is Greek letters.
