[quote]In the midst of one of the most precipitous political crashes in the Mountain West, Sarah Palin made a mad dash into Boise on Friday, urging the election of a man who had plagiarized his campaign speech from Barack Obama, had been rebuked by the military for misusing the Marine uniform and had called the American territory of Puerto Rico a separate country.

And why not? Vaughn Ward, the Republican congressional candidate from Idaho, has the dubious character trifecta of the Palin brand: bone-headed, defiant and willfully ignorant. When told that Puerto Rico was not a country, he said, “I don’t care what you call it.â€

She really is one of those made-for-TV spectacles, like a reality show nobody pitched to TV execs beforehand. As the comedian Doc Barham put it, she appeals to all the "mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, obstinately ignorant" folks.

"See? You don't need no big fancy-pants edumacation to do good," they say, and point to Palin.

Very true - but having to put up with the "fancy-pants education" will give you the thinking skills and the grace under fire to not act like a complete ignorant jackass on national television, requiring her to describe questions like "what newspapers do you read" as "gotcha questions from journalists with an agenda!"

She's hilarious to watch. I really am beginning to think that everyone in America should send Thank You cards to John McCain every year just for putting her in front of national TV cameras in the way he did.

I think McCain is more than likely kicking himself for selecting her as his running mate. God what the fuck was he thinking.

God what the fuck was he thinking.
"I'm getting my ass kicked out here! I gotta have something to counteract that charisma... Wait, girls are allowed to vote these days! Hell a bunch of them are mad because Hillary (that bitch!) lost! I know... I'll get myself a girl running mate, then the kids will think I'm cool again!"

Joking, Joking.

Actually Palin was a compromise. McCain wanted Lieberman (that's right, you heard me) but the delegates flat out told him they would ignore the primaries and run with Romney if he chose a *gasp* sorta kinda democrat running mate. Determined to find a running mate that would at least look like he was reaching out and running out of time... He kinda grabbed the most popular governor in the Union (who came conveniently with a set of tits) and didn't think to hard about it.

Enter Tina Fey and Katie Couric and thus was made history.

Have any of you heard the clip of Vaughn on Puerto Rico? It is fucking hilarious. He clearly has no idea what or where Puerto Rico is and is just making comments about how he doesn't want other countries to join the United States when his opponent goes "Uh, Puerto Rico is a United States territory, how about we take a basic civics lesson?" Wherein he replies with the now infamous "I don't care what you call it."

As for Palin. I am not surprised in the least. Hopefully in another four years she'll have worn out her celebrity status and disappeared into some hole. But for now I will simply take pleasure in how much she is "helping" the Republican party.
