#1 IRC RPG: Gothic Horror Adventure!

Post by Norseman »

This was the best forum I could find on the board for this. Mods please move this if there's a better forum.

Basically I'm starting an online RPG game which will probably be run on IRC (though this is not written in stone). The game is sort of a fusion between White Wolf's Adventure! (think Pulp Adventure with larger than life heroes) and the old Ravenloft game setting, in some ways it is very similar to the Masque of Red Death setting. The setting is somewhat pseudo-Victorian, though not quote steampunk, there is a strong theme of modern technology and knowledge versus ancient horrors and superstitions. Much like Dracula in a way, which was a story about modern gadgets (blood transfusion, railways, etc) against an ancient monster.

If any of this made sense to you then you might find the game interesting. Follow the link for more details: Gothic Horror Adventure!

Feel free to ask me questions.

Yes, there are a handful of old luddites who like to fire up their steam-powered difference engines and share messages on the world wide telegraph network. I tell you when we really get cracking the sparks fly from automatic morse keyer!

But yeah it's an IRC campaign for now, though this is not written in stone.

Yes, on a regular basis. I got into it three or four years ago. I find it's more stable than other types of chat, and /nick based jokes never get old.

For what it's worth, a few people here got hooked on using Skype for such things. It really does work well.

Unfortunately Skype may not be the best idea for me, though I'm willing to consider it. Seriously though the forum is not as important as the game I hope. So let me know if anyone is interested.

If voice chat through Skype is an option, one piece of software you may want to look at is Screenmonkey. Only the GM needs to have it, and it operates by setting up a small, secure web server on the GM's PC that the other players can connect to with the right credentials.

It basically allows map and character placement, dice rolling, and other necessities of tabletop. Hotfoot used it to run his Star Wars game via Skype, and it worked quite nicely.
