What can I say? I killed a player tonight in IK P&P. The scent of blood has excited my cruelty.

I believe it is well overdue for some PCs to post. You have no shortage of targets and some are even tantalizingly wounded.

While I LOVE that song (I am gay after all) what Corey wants to do is more like going to Soccer Practice

He is, in a way, Someone for the Fellas and is looking for something cute

There are no "starlock" thralls and no skarlock thralls in the grease area. There is one bane thrall, radiating darkness, in the former grease area (the grease will be nicely burned off, courtesy of Corey. The skarlocks are inside, passed the bane thrall and its night aura and then there is the whole cluster of adventurers around the door thing.

So rhoenix needs to change his post.

Sorry I've not been posting much in game. Every time I sit down to write something, my brain goes on haitus. I think it's largely due to getting used to the pace of my job. I'll try to do something soonish, promise.

I'm going to assume that an Iron Lich doesn't weigh too much for what I'm doing in my post. I'll correct it if informed otherwise.

Man, I just made a half dozen typos in those two sentences. I just can't type today.

It's an eight foot tall steel construct with a necrotech steam engine on its back. Why would you possibly think it doesn't weigh a shitload?

fyi, both (now deceased) skarlocks were burned. First by the opening lightning bolt and the second by the fire cascade.

Cyncat, not that I'm complaining too much since the targets are down, but magic missiles don't miss. That was the spell Zedrin used, so sorry if that wasn't clear.

It was quite clear. So was my statement at the beginning that we aren't going straight game mechanics. So you can shoot a 18th level priest in the throat and kill him. Magic missiles can miss (although rarely) and they can blow through the lung of a 7th level character that stands there and doesn't do anything to protect himself instead of doing 2-5hp a shot. Clear?

Your wording was clear, but saying explicitly that magic missiles can miss (which is a pretty significant game mechanic change), and alluding to other examples, all of which involve damage descriptions is a bit disingenuous.

Changing damage resolution for various sources makes sense to me, given the more dramatic and forum-based nature of play. But saying that magic missiles can miss sometimes is a fairly significant change.

That said, I'd like to know a few more details about magic missiles, then - under what circumstances and situations can they miss? Can they be dodged, now?

No it isn't. I said at the beginning we wouldn't be going by game mechanics. You're referencing a game mechanic. A description of the spell would be a conjuring forth a series of accurate, low powered energy bolts. And that's what happens.
Changing damage resolution for various sources makes sense to me, given the more dramatic and forum-based nature of play. But saying that magic missiles can miss sometimes is a fairly significant change.
Given how abstract the D&D hitpoint system is, it isn't really that much of a change even if we were going by game mechanics. A damaging hit in D&D can translate into a bare near miss that burns through most of character's last bit of luck.
That said, I'd like to know a few more details about magic missiles, then - under what circumstances and situations can they miss? Can they be dodged, now?
They can miss in all sorts of circumstances. Of course they usually hit. But dodging might mean they don't hit vitals or don't do much through armour. Standing still and letting them hit wherever is not advised.
