It's not the first time it's seemed dead. Like a zombie, it moves in fits and starts.

I'm just trying to figure out what the fuck to do. Every time I try something, it's the wrong thing. But here we go to try again.

You have found the city they're striking from and . . . not investigated. You keep going back to the place they've kicked the shit out of full of people who know less about the threat than you do. And you are wondering why you're getting nowhere? :???:

Gaheris will go investigate after he's sure the place won't be overrun from the inside as soon as he's gone. The nature of the enemy makes that scenario very, very probable.

It makes it inevitable, and you wont be able to stop it. As Astinius just mentioned.

Right. I was wondering when someone would point that out; you need to remember that this character is in the end a reformed street rat. The planes are not his strong point. Okay, off to Elturel it is.

In the general sense, yes, but at the end of the day he knows jack all about portals, interplanar travel, and how to stop them.

So... He doesn't ask anyone who might? Say, maybe the party's wizard, or token extraplanar? He doesn't go to the city he knows they're in? He scurries back to hide?

He hasn't gone back to the city we think they're in yet because 1.) it's too obvious, 2.) if they're actually dispatching their strike forces from Elturel itself then they have the mobility to be anywhere in Faerun now that we've pinned down their original location, 3.) if they aren't then said strikers are in fact in Westgate, and 4.) if that's the case then the Abbey's fucked if we go running hither and yon across the continent. Believe you me, if he had something to go on the offensive against he'd do it in an instant, but as it stands the enemy could be anywhere or even anyone: His own agents, the Justiciar, any of the monks, or that random beggar over there. He has no target, and in his mind that makes protecting his people while trying to find the target the best thing to do.

In any case, we're going to Elturel now and Malkamar has the ring gate.

No, but it is his responsibility. To be frank, he expects Lord Dhelt to be able to police his own fucking citadel, and I will not be at all surprised if Dhelt isn't too happy with us for showing up and going vigilante on his city in the first place anyway.

Edit: Anyway, we'd better hope to God we don't get into another knock-down, drag-out fight when we get to Elturel, because I know Gaheris is out of smites, out of healing, his mount is done for the day, he isn't even at full hit points, and his enemy isn't undead, which is what one of his two remaining spells is prepped for. He's down to his sword, and he can't be the only one running low.

In what universe do you think you're playing in that a city can be secured against secret cults just because the ruler happens to be high level?

How many of them operate out of fucking Waterdeep, home to disgusting high level paladins and two Chosen of Mystra? This is the Realms. If there aren't three secret organizations operating in your city, its because you haven't found all of them yet.

My post powerful spells were used fighting the pit feinds, but I can still rain death upon our foes. At least for a while

Due to dissatisfaction from some of the players and the DM with how the campaign is progressing, this baby is dead.

Unknown. Right now, I'd probably not rejoin it if it did. If you look back to the first post, you see it's taken what... 2 years? And we never got anywhere, really. So, the DM and the Tahalshias got tired of it.

Bah. I signed on to fight the Night Masks anyway, not get run over by EL 22 encounters at level 15 and then get sent gallivanting after an enemy we can't even begin to detect. I suppose it's just as well.

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't hand feed you your prefered enemy and you actually had to work to get information. I also see you completely omitted the help you had from NPCS with those pit fiends or the little fact that they weren't even trying to kill your character.

You want to hand pick your enemies and the terrain? DM.

Also, who the fuck said that we had to stay in your little backyard, Rogue? From the first, you had us cooped up in your alley-hideaway, then you had us cooped up in your abbey, and we got NoWhere.

We tried to get out and get things done, but you were holding the whole party back with your 'Oh noes! they're after my Abbey/City/People' mentality. I think Cyncat sent the demons just to try to get you (and us) pried out of your hideyhole! Lots of good that did.

What annoys me is that we wasted well over a year on this. We should have let it die the last time it stuttered to a halt. I'll probably let Torma's CS die now... this makes the second game that's crashed and burned with her in it.

I thought it over at work, and you're right. It really wasn't getting anywhere, and that was mostly my fault. I fucked it up, and I'm sorry.
