#1 Glitch IV - Inversion OOC/Signup
I felt like revisiting a old gaming universe of mines from the days when I used to post on the Utopia Role Playing forums. B4UTRUST will remember it decently...
I'll post the History of the thread, and depending on your response, if there seems to be enough interest, I'll post the rest of the info and character creation.
--------------------------
GM Note: The following information is included only as a history primer for the Player. It will describe the events which have happened thus far, in the various Glitch Role Playing Games from the Utopia RolePlaying forum. Yes, I know it sucks, but it's the best I can do, I'm not a great writer unlike some here -eyes Cynical-
In the begining there was nothing.
Then there was Pong.
When the program was finally compiled, and the first video game took shape on a human television display, the Game-verse was born, a shimmering, glowing dimension, which exsisted alongside our own, connected, yet hidden. This Gameverse was teeming with infinite possibility, but it was in it's infancy, all it possessed was potential. As time moved on, Worlds began to appear, and as these worlds took form, life, in all it's crudeness, took shape. This was not life as we knew it - this was life created through the efforts of a outside force.
In our world, video games, the first being Pong, had arrived. Through the worlds brought to us on the Atari, Intellivsion and Colecovision consoles, in the countless Arcades scattered across the world, we visited new worlds and new meet countless companions. From Pacman to Mario, from Samus Aran to Laura Croft, we explored these worlds, these characters as our eyes and ears. The worlds began more virbant and realistic with each generation of new technology made available to us. And we reveled in it.
Unknown to us, the creation of these worlds, and the advancing of our technology affected the hidden Game-verse. With each new game we created, another World appeared, populated by the very information we encoded, given digital flesh and binary blood. As the technology in which we played games advanced, so did the Game-verse. But through it all, each world remained seperate, a island unto itself.
During the 8-bit Era, the time of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Master System, the two worlds first touched. In the depths between the game worlds, a great evil waited. Biding it's time, it drew together the most powerful villans it could find - Dr Wily, King Hippo, Eggplant Wizard and the Mother Brain - and unleashed them upon the Nexus of the Game-verse, the Crystal Castle. The battles waged, and the barriers between the Gameworlds began to weaken. Eventually, the King of the Crystal Castle was lost in battle, and with the last bit of power allowed to him, opened a gate to our world.
A teenager named Kevin Keene was the first human to enter the Game-verse, and utilizing the Items of Power granted to him, lead a team of hero's gathered from across the gameworlds against the Legion of Darkness. Eventually, the forces were defeated, and the portals where thought sealed. The Chosen One was returned to his own world, and the world moved on, none the wiser.
With the defenses of the Nexus at it's weakest following the final battle, and the leaving of the Chosen One, the dark force which brought the Legion together, assaulted the Crystal Palace. It quickly overwhelmed the Nexus' defenses with it's dark horde, slaughtering the protectors before they could once more summon the Chosen One. With the Nexus under it's control, the Dark Force obtained the ability to open the gateways as it desired, and began to reformat the Nexus and the Crystal Palace to it's own twisted vision.
After the fourth Great upgrade (the coming of the 32/64 bit Generation), the Nexus was a dim legend in the mind of the Game World's inhabitants. No one knew what happened to it. A year after the Fourth Great Upgrade, the Dark Force made itself known. Having spent years absorbing the power of the Crystal Palace, it opened WarpGates to the Gameworlds, and abducted thier greatest characters. On it's world, a twisted amalgamation of terrain from every gameworld known, the dark force introduced itself as the Glitch, and offered them a choice, serve it, or spend the rest of thier days in a endless war.
The Glitch War began then, hundreds of hero's and villans where brought to the Glitchworld, some accepeted the offer, some rejected it. The lines between good and evil were blurred, Hero's and Villans alike found themselves on similar side, and old rivalries where put aside, as only two sides exsisted, The Glitches Dark Horde, and the Resistance. The battles were brutal and many where lost. Eventually, the Resistance fought to the gates of
the Dark Castle, and defeated the horde.
Once the Resistance won the day, and where confronted finally, by the awesome power of the Glitch, that it finally explained to them the purpose of bringing them to the world, of allowing the battle.
It was a test.
And they had failed.
The Glitch had brought them to it's world to gauge thier ability, to determine it's own origins. It told them, they were useless. And with that, they were sent home without memory of the events.
Five years later, the Glitch began a second assault, this time focusing it's attention on the worlds themselves, instead of the hero's and villans. Like a dark cloud, it enshrouded entire words with it's power, drawing to it those who would follow it to the Glitchworld, the Dark Nexus, and infused them with greater power and strength then before. The war ravaged entire Gameworlds, leaving some to be forgotten and lost, a empty husk which would eventually atrohpy and die, becoming new Glitchworlds. It was through a vast allience of the last of the game hero's and villians who managed to not be lured into the Glitch's promises of power, that the forces of chaos met thier downfall. The Glitch was defeated, thrust back into the Dark Nexus. beleived to be sealed away. During the events of the war a some participants began to realieze something, they were the creation of other beings..
For seventy years passed, and things remained peaceful. Another Great Upgrade came forth and changed the Game-verse, increasing the beauty and splendor of the Gameworlds, and increasing the power of the Core Worlds. On the fringes of the Game-verse, and with the Great upgrade, a new threat arose. Bob Page, following the orders of a being he named the First One, gathered a powerful collection of Archvillans, and sent forth a army of twisted beings, called Nulls. The Null Hordes quickly overwhelmed countless Gameworlds, converting them into lifeless digital rocks. Many worlds on the edge of the Game-verse were consumed with little chance of defending themselves.
It was through the actions of a group of heros, that the Hordes where finally defeated, and the Dark Council dissolved. It was discovered that the force behind the Dark Council was none other than the Glitch itself, taken new form, spawning the Null's themselves, first from itself, then the gameworlds it consumed. With the defeat of the Glitch this third time, many worlds were restored to thier former glory.
With the advancement of human technology breaking the barriers, travel between the gameworlds has become commonplace, and no longer are each a island unto itself. The Dark Nexus has been Firewalled, placing it within a quarintine zone, so that the Glitch and it's hordes could never again infect the Game-verse.
Time has passed since then, far more in the human world, than the Game-verse. A new Upgrade has crossed the Game-verse, and the MMOG Generation has commenced in the human worlds.

In Glitch IV, the players will have two characters - The character they create, the "real" person who lives breathes, eats and plays, and the "Real Persons" Character, or Avatar, in the Super Massive Multiplayer Online Game, "Destiny".
Scenes will switch between the Real World, and the Game World at the descretion of the GM, and we will focus on aspects of the Real World character, as much as thier adventures in the SMMORPG with thier Avatar.

Some Fluff, to help you gauge things by....excerpts from the manual for the SMMORPG that your characters would be playing in....
---------
*Excerpts from "Destiny" Players Manual*
-Description-
A fantasy based SMMORPG (Super Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) which runs on a series of world wide, interconnected servers. The game is populated by actual people who pay a small monthly fee in order to experience the world through thier own eyes, amoungst other senses, thanks to the holographic technology which has become commonplace in the game's setting. While the game is sold and advertised as Destiny, it's players more often refer to it by the name of the Gameworld, "Zion".
Interaction is done in the holographic world, the player takes the role of thier avatar, and acts out thier Avatar's actions in the game. Other players, while in the gameworld, will see the costumized Avatar of the player.
While there are seperate servers, to facilitate the least amount of lag, with the most amount of people, there is only one World. Every player are on the same supermassive gameworld, equal insize to the Earth. While there are NPC's (actually actors which are paid by the game's creators to play the parts), the players are the lifeblood of the world, and are able to do nearly anything they desire. From learning how to blacksmith and eventually owning thier own forge, to becoming the ruler of a Kingdom, or a Archvillian. These goals usually take years to accomplish, but with the level of detail, constant updates to the system, and new content always being produced, and a ongoing storyline for the game itself, attrition rate for players are extremely low. Role playing is enforced primarily by a "guild" of powerful knights known as the Silver Guardians. Though 'leet speak' has been allowed by the Creator (the man who masterminded the game design) as a seperate language, and is allowed.
-----------------------------------------------
-Character Creation-
You've created an account for Destiny and have entered the game for the first time. The game automatically logs you into the closest node and prompts you to create your Avatar.
-Choose a Race and Class:
Your first choice when making a character is your race. Each race has a unique set of charecteristics and it's own list of available Classes.
-Customize your appearence:
Begining with a holographic representation of yourself to fit the race of your choice. Everything about this avatar can be customized to your own personal specifications, from color of hair, to pitch and modulation of the Avatar's voice. You may then choose a name to your character.
-Enter the Game:
After finalizing your ingame appearence, you will then be transported to a half hour tutorial of the game, before being allowed to choose a staeting city according to your chosen race.

*Professions*
(GM's Note: you know what these are...I don't have to explain these to you....if all else fails, use the D&D Equivilant. The only change will be the Magic system for Sorcerers. If you really need to ask what a certain profession does, ask me. For future reference: Warlocks are Necromancers.

.:Warlock:.
Warlocks were mages that delved too deeply into the roots of power. Consumed by a lust for dark knowledge, they've tapped into chaotic magics from beyond the world. The Warlock is an unseemly form of sorcerer whose spells deal with the raising of the dead and the summoning and control of various creatures for his purposes. Though his goals are sometimes aligned with those of the forces of Good, some do not think that these ends can justify his foul means. Long hours of study in dank mausolea have made his skin pale and corpselike, his figure, skeletal. Most people shun him for his peculiar looks and ways, but none doubt the power of the Warlock, for it is the stuff of nightmares.
Class Role:
Warlocks have both powerful damage spells (primarily dealing over time) and debuff spells that work well in conjunction with each other and with the abilities of their group mates. They have Curses for many occasions; in fact, they can easily be considered the best debuffers in the game. Their "pets", too, help with the damage dealing and grant the Warlock the ability to take on solo, what would normally take many.
Class Strengths:
Can use pets for fun and to attract enemy aggression
Can hand out Soulstones that allow self-resurrection
Can heal itself using Life Tap
Can solo very well by using a pets to act as a group
Spells do not require vocal components
Class Weaknesses:
Can only wear cloth armor
Very fragile and easily killed in certain situations
Summoning Spells require reagents
Summons are fragile and easily dealt with singularly.
A warlock can only have one of his Curses affecting a target at one time.
-Warlock Abilities-
Note: The spells and abilities are listed at the level they can be learned at. Obtaining the level does not mean you automatically obtain access to the ability. Any Spells of a Necromantic Bent or "Curse" from D&D 3.5 may also be used, with GM permission.
Level One:
*Raise Skeleton
Early on, Warlocks learn to control the skeletal remains of deceased creatures. Invoking this skill causes a nightmarish jumble of animated bones to rise from a fresh corpse. Animated partially through their own will and partially through the summoned spirits of ancient warriors, Warlocks often maintain a small host of these reanimated soldiers to do their bidding. At Level One, only one Skeleton can be raised, at Level Three, Two Skeletons, from there after, a additional Skeleton can be raised every three levels.
*Corpse Skin
Permeats the Warlock's flesh with the chill of death, fortifying him from the effects of physical and cold based damage. While the spell is active, Fire and Poison type spells will cause more damage to the Warlock.
*Shadow Bolt
By focusing the dark aspects of the magic he wields, the Warlock can form a ball of deadly spiritual energy, and hurl it at an opponent. This bolt of energy causes 9-21 points of damage, increase by +3 for every two levels of the Warlock.
Level Three:
*Raise Skeleton Mage
Dead warriors are not the only heroes that a Warlock may summon to inhabit his creations. Many a Warlock delight in raising the corpses of long dead wizards and bending them to his will, using them to launch elemental attacks against thier foes. Warlocks feel that this is the proof of the dominance of their particular branch of the mystic arts. Only one Skeleton Mage can be raised when first learning this spell, though the Warlock gains a additional Skeletal Mage for every four(4) levels after the third.
*Immolate
By channeling into the deamonic aspects of the magic he performs, the Warlock cause a target to burst into flames for a brief period of time, causing 12-24 damage every 4 seconds (duration 20 seconds). For every three levels, damage increases +5, and duration increases by 3 seconds.
*Dim Vision
Damning an enemy to the darkness of their own evil, this curse surrounds the afflicted in a sphere of perfect darkness and silence, blinding them. This allows a Warlock and his party to slip by unnoticed or maneuver close for a more effective attack.
Level Five:
*Curse of Weakness
This curse weakens a opponent, causing thier blows to become less effective. Attack Strength of a target is decreased by the (Warlock's Level/2)% and lasts for two minutes.
*Corruption
A powerful spell which allows the Warlock to place a seed of darkness in the target, causing 13-30 damage over ten seconds. Damage increases by +4 every 3 levels.
Level Ten
*Iron Maiden
This spell curses a creature, condemning them to receive whatever pains they inflict upon others. The greater the skill of the Warlock, the greater the magnitude of torment the victim receives with each blow they land, effectivly killing themselves.
*Life Tap
This skill allows the Necromancer to literally suck the life from his victims. The Necromancer is able to reach into the wellspring of mortality and siphon off its essence, consuming it to replace his own.
*Curse of Agony
A potent curse, the Warlock with this ability can set off, at complete random, the pain centers of the body, This deals 84 points of damage over 24 seconds. This damage increases +1 for every level after ten.
Level Seventeen:
*Corpse Explosion
Every corpse created as a result of a violent death carries with it the anguish of its final moments. With this spell the Warlock is able to call upon those energies and focus them into a single violent force. This force then expels itself from the carcass with such power that it causes a dramatic explosion, much like a bomb. A corpse used in a summoning, cannot be used for this spell.
*Decrepify
This curse gives the victim a glimpse of his own mortality, briefly aging the victim. Imagining itself with an infirm body of advanced age, the afflicted believes it is no longer capable of youthful exertions. The spell lasts for 10seconds*Caster Level / 3
Level Thirty:
*Revive Corpse
The ultimate goal of a Warlock is the perfect reanimation and control of a dead creature, maintaining the purity and properties of its body while releasing its soul to allow the Warlock full control. When a Warlock at long last gains this ability, he can truly claim mastery of the Great Cycle of Being. Due to thier souls being released, Revived creatures are not as "smart" as they originally were, though thier potent abilities remain. The Warlock can animate only one corpse for every 10 levels.
+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+
.:Druids:.
Druids are the keepers of the world. The original Druids were race descended from great poet-warriors, who worked to keep the world pure and untainted by Deamonic influences. As thier numbrs began to dwindle, the Druids went out into the world, and found those willing to learn their ways. Druids are attuned with nature in allowing them to detect things even a Grandmaster Hunter cannot hope to, or take the forms of powerful beasts to aid them in combat. The more powerful the Druid grows, the more forms he can assume. With its ability to heal itself and fellow characters, the Druid can also take on the role of a Cleric. Although a Druid is not as versatile in its abilities as a Priest is, lacking the protection spells and Resurrection ability, but is otherwise a very capable healer.
Class Role:
The Druid has three potential roles in a group. When in their normal, biped form, they act well as a healer and can give support in the form of buffs and debuffs; they also have limited crowd control against dragons. Their Bear form gives them offensive and defensive power enough to step up to a monster and take the hits. In Cat form, the Druid becomes a damage dealer. This trio of roles in one class gives the Druid a diverse feel and allows them to perform nearly any role perceived as "needed" in a party.
Class Strengths:
Multiple play style options
Transform into cool-looking animals that impress other players and add a lot of character, flavor, and humor to the world
Several weapon options
Fast travel via aquatic and travel forms
The most powerful buff of all the classes
Class Weaknesses:
Weaknesses: Restricted to Cloth and Leather Armor only
Forms are not as versatile as their counterpart classes, but might be considered as powerful
Can't use items or Druid spells while in the various animal forms
Druid Abilities:
(Note: The spells and abilities are listed at the level they can be learned at, except for the level one abilities. Obtaining the level does not mean you automatically obtain access to the ability. Also included are any D&D3.5 type spells at thier appropriate level after discussion with me)

Logging out:
After speaking with a Innkeeper in a town, you will obtain a "hearthstone". This item, once used will transport you back to the Inn so you may safely log out. Only one hearthstone may be carried at a time.
Alternatively, you can log out safely in your home or shop.
Owning a Home or Shop:
Eventually, you may grow tired of staying at the Inn, or your possessions will outgrow your bank box. At this time, you may want to look into owning your own home. There are many different types of player owned buildings in the game, ranging from single multiroom "apartments" (mid level characters normal home), to actual shops with living quarters above them, cottages, cabins, towers, manor houses, and eventually, for those who claim the highest positions of power in Zion, castles.
Standalone housing for higher level characters can be one of two things: "prefabricated" homes which suit a certain room layout, or "customized" housing, in which the homeowner may design his own house (this utilizes a out of game design tool installed with Destiny on the HDD).

-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+

*Healing Touch
Heals a friendly target for a small amount of damage
*Mark of the Wild

*Thorns
Range:35 yards

:Level Ten:
*Form of the Bear

------------------
Races:
((GM Note: Again...the races are self explanitory....the only difference here would be the Trolls are not D&D Trolls, but more akin to Warcraft style trolls. No, they don't speak with Jamacian Accents....not as a entire race anyway.))

You weren't the "application of pain" until the players decided to piss me off, and I couldn't think of tortures enough for them......
The people here are more..sane...and less munchkiny.
That and it's all good, and I'm not intending to share much of the plot details with anyone anyway.

Differences between mages, sorcerers, and warlocks?
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Mage and Sorcerer - fuck ups on my part of editing the document, Mages are Sorcerers, I'll fix it.
Warlocks - Sorcerers who get thier power by studying the darker arts of Necromancy. They specialize in the creation of magical diseases and plagues, raising undead and summoning lesser Deamons as "pets" and allies.
Warlock spells are vastly different from normal Sorcery, in that thier learned by rote, and require almost no vocal component, only somantic and material. Since these powers link so closely to Death, it draws upon a small portion of the life force of the Warlock to empower them.
I'm not entirely decided on the powers for the Warlock, or the spells....figure
any appropriate D&D spells for them, minus vocal component

ok, looking over it.....
We have Cass, Scott, Cynical, Nitram and Tevar interested.
More than enough to post the character creation stuff, anyone else who wants to join up can.
You will have to make two characters for this thread, one is the "Real World" character, it is basically a normal, average human being. The timeframe is approx 30 years from now - breakthroughs in manufacturing and holographics has made it excessively practical and relatively inexpensive. Most homes have a Holographic Display Device - or HDD - in thier homes, which is used as a gaming device. Information for this is very basic:
The tech base, beyond the HDD's, is what is beleivable to be acheived within the next 25-30 years, there's no colonization of other planets, no flying cars, etc etc. though alternative fuel sources have been explored, and are being exploited.

"Real World" Character Sheet
Name: Leah Skaggs
Age: 37
Occupation: Archivist at the state's historical library.
Description: Mousy... brown hair, brown eyes hidden behind glasses. Quiet, shy, nearly invisible.
Brief History: Its a shame how true the mousy librarian jokes get. Sharon was too smart in school, and thus was the butt of every joke. When she entered college, she was too shy to even speak to the guys on campus at first, her self-esteem already damaged. Of course, she fell hard for one guy in her classes. He needed her help as a tutor... and was willing to do whatever it took to get her to help him pass the class. But he didn't want anything to do with a baby. One abortion later, she dropped out of college, attending a jr college for a degree in Library science. She found an opening at the state capitol, and has been steadily improving its records ever since. Unfortunately, she works alone most of the time... this gives her no chance to get out and meet people. She has a small apartment only blocks from work, two cats for company... and Zion. In Zion, she can be everything she's always wanted to be. Pretty. Well Liked. The girl all the guys want.
SMMORPG (within the game)
Name: Leandra Daskarr
Race: Human
Class: Cleric
Level: 33
Powers/Abilities: High level Healing and 'Buffing' spells. Proficient with Hammer/Mace. Crafter of Potions and Clerical Scrolls (Alchemy, Read/Write/Inscribe Magic). Various Knowledges (arcane, divine, geography, history etc).
Ingame History/Character Story: At first, Leandra chose to be a cleric to help people. Her player chose her avatar's looks because she could be pretty and sexy, and all the things she wasn't IRL. At first, Leandra was cynical about how she was treated so much better in game as someone pretty, but as she spend more time in game, she found she liked the attention. Whenever she wanted to join a party, she was always eagerly accepted, for both her skills and her looks. As she started making friends among the other characters, she started experimenting with the more 'adult' themes. Leandra found she liked cybering... a lot. As she gained skills in healing and alchemy, she started selling potions, and later, scrolls that others could use. She doesn't care whom she sells to, but sometimes certain cute male humans, elves (especially dark ones, yum!), and the occassional half-giant can get discounts on their purchases. She still joins groups when they need a high-level cleric, and will occassionally help out a weaker party, but her shop (the first floor of her in-game house) gains her both money and experience, and lets her have a nice quiet place for her cybering.
Description:
"Real World" Character Sheet
Name: Albert Basil
Age: 26
Occupation: Graduate Student/TA
Description: Brown/Black hair with a short, neat beard, emerald green eyes, tall and studious.
Brief History: Intelligent, analytic, gifted with a talent with words.. These words may not get you far in most frats or high schools, but Al's been happy with them. When he nabbed a Graduate spot at WPI, he was even happier. It's not exactly a magnet for PoliSci buffs, but that just means the classes are smaller and more managable. Prone to long rambles and analysises at the drop of a hat, or just about anything else.
SMMORPG Character Sheet
Name: Thog Stonehead
Race: Half-Giant
Class: Dunt need no clath.(Warrior)
Level: 27
Abilities: Hittin' stuff, cuttin' stuff, makin' shinin' stuff.(Proficient with axes, clubs, hammers, improvised weaponry, and strangely enough, jewelry making.
Description:
Ingame History/Character Story: 'Stonehead' is apt; this guy's as smart as a well-travelled peice of granite, or perhaps a scholarly bit of obsidian. Which is to say, he's really, really stupid. He excells at two things: Playing the tank of a party, and making bits of jewelry, enchanted and otherwise. Al very rarely breaks character, revelling in the freedom of playing such a stupid character offers. When RPing, he makes inane, foolish comments; when in a party, he rushes in at the first sign of trouble. A few 'regulars' know he's smarter than he acts, as he will occasionally lapse into his normal, intellectual self.

I am interested. Will have a character made at some point tomorrow. Warlock in all likelyhood (though it could be a druid) "in game" in the "real world" Ecology grad student

Have done a write up for both Druids and Warlock's.....
yeah...that took while. And yes, I stole some of those abilities from other games, I be damned if I'm going to do a entire design for a MMOG for this thread.....
With the people signing up, I feel the need to clarify this. Your characters all know each other, either you are ingame friends, or you've all meet and "work" in the general area within the game, or are apart of a guild, or some weird combination thereof.
If you choose the guild path, I suggest those players fomulate a Guild, even very quickly.
As the signup's continue, I'll begin the thread in a few days. Expect the prologue to be posted soon in this thread, to give a better idea of what the ingame world is like.

Name: Maeglin
Race: High Elf
Class: Hunter
Level: 26
Abilities: Favoured Enemies (Vermin, Goblinoids, Giants, Humans, Constructs), Track, Wild Empathy, Combat Style (Dual-Wield), Endurance, Woodland Stride, Swift Tracker, Stealthy, Camouflage, Weapon Focus: Short Sword, Weapon Focus: Arming Sword (Long Sword)
Description: click me, Cheerful, Polite, Youthful, More like a halfling than an elven ranger.... but still an elven ranger. He's also got a sharp wit... mostly due to being played by an eccentric Irishman writer who happens to think that he's the next Terry Pratchett.
Ingame History/Character Story: Someone who once took it upon himself to guard the forest, and learned the tricks of that trade. This got immensely boring, so he decided to become an adventurer, like he should have done in the first place. He's quite eccentric by nature, and acts like the precise opposite that you'd expect a ranger to act like. Rather than Dark and Brooding, he's lighthearted and cheerful, but he still maintains his Ranger skills via act of game mechanic... oddly enough.

"Real World" Character Sheet
Name: James Darwin
Age: 31
Occupation: Tax Accountant
Description: Dark brown hair, six one, and carrying a little too much weight around the middle.
Brief History: His job pays the bills although he hates it. If only his real gaming group hadn't gone down the tubes then he wouldn't have to put with these shitty "No real death" computer rpgs. He really should get around to eating healthier and exorcising more. He'll get a gym membership next month. Really. For sure this time.
Name: Zalethos
Race: High Elf
Class: Sorcerer
Level: 32
Abilities: Pyromancy to the max.
Description: A blue eyed, auburn haired, six four elf lord who wears black and red.
Ingame History/Character Story: Generic Elf Lord. Yadda yadda yadda. It would be nice if these fucking details meant anything, like in a real paper and pencil game. And it would be so nice if you could create your own spells. Next expansion I heard. Probably some Elder Scrolls rip off mechanism.

excellent..more join the game...
I've worked up a "prologue" of sorts, just a introduction for everyone to get the feel of the gameworld.
I'm open to suggestions on "fine tuning" it based on what you read, but I hope this wets your appetite and expectations for the game.
I'll give everyone a few days, and expect the IC thread to begin by Wensday evening.

The Glitch IV - Inversion
Prologue
Prologue:
Together they moved through the dark woods surrounding the fortress city of Mistas, the scaly hide of the swamp dragon shifting beneath the chain mail. His sword had long since broken, his body weary from both use of sword and shield, and the small amount of magic he knew. If he could only make it to the gypsy camp near Lakeshire, he could purchase another sword and shield from them. He could re-equip, and continue his scouting, or take a Portal back home.
The dragon stopped in it's pacing, it's head rearing up. The rider looked to the side, as he patted the long neck of his steed, "What is it your sensing Khell?" he whispered. The six-legged dragon-kind understood, its head turning to the left, facing a massive oak tree.
The warrior frowned; all he had was the broken broadsword, and a badly battered shield. If a Dragoon, or the Gods Forbid, a Jukan came into view, he would be a poor match for it. The massive, clawed feet of the swamp dragon pounded upon ground, slowly, bits and pieces of plant matter sticking to its dagger like talons. 'I have to have something' he thought, his hand moving to one of the pouches he carried.
Nimble, despite the chain mail gloves he wore, he tore through the pouches, his hands wrapping around the tapered and corked neck of a flask. He had already used most of the potions he had carried...
All except the explosion potions.
The vials clacked together in the pouch, he felt for them. Three vials. If, and this was a large if, he go them off quickly enough, he may be able to escape.
He took the three vials of volatile purple liquid from the pouch, his hands fixed to quickly break their seals. In a swift movement, he broke the seal off a vial, and hurled the explosion potion at the tree branches. Rider and beast stayed motionless, as the fizzling concoction exploded amongst the branches. The mighty tree, ancient and strong, trembled from the blast, and the heat went up.
He heard rustling, as a mongbat's corpse fell from the branches.
He frowned, as he dismounted his Dragon.
A Mongbat.
He could defeat those with his bare hands...
He moved towards the tree, as he heard the rustling again.... He stopped; he was to far away from his dragon, Khell had stayed where he dismounted. If this were an ambush he would be done for.
His hand went to the worn scabbard, resting upon the hilt of his shattered sword. It wasn’t much, but if they were going to take him....
He whispered soft words of prayer, as he drew the broken blade, the jagged tip where it broke, leaving it resembling an oversized dagger, glinted in the dull light. He heard crashing in the distance.
Golems.
Golems meant only one thing, Lord Vergion's his forces moved had proceeded this far south, moving swiftly after stinging from their defeat in Tiroania. He heard the draw of a bowstring from behind him, the heavy, guttural breathing of a Juka. Only one Juka carried a bow, their Warmasters. The snarl of the Juka was evident...why hadn’t Khell attacked the Lord he wondered.... He would have to wait to find out.
The Jukan Warlord screamed out a single word in it's gutteral, rough tongue, as he released the taunt bowstring, "DIE!"
He chose that moment to duck, the arrow embedding itself the trunk of the oak. He spun and slashed from his crouching position with the broken sword, the blade digging into the odd Jukan armor. The Lord grunted with the blow, eyes brightening. "You'll pay for that Human...."
The warrior narrowed his eyes. If he only had any power left for even a simple spell, he didn’t have the potential for great magic within him anymore, not since he separated with Dark Silver. The former inherited a strong physical form, and most of the potent magical properties their pairing had made. But right now, the mage was still retraining. His voice was low, almost a growl, as he stood before the Jukan Warmaster, the odd, blunt lizard-like face focused upon him,
"My name.... Juka...is Darek Steele.…â€

Your characters all know each other, either you are ingame friends, or you've all meet and "work" in the general area within the game, or are apart of a guild, or some weird combination thereof.

.... Ok... I don't know whether to be amused or creeped out that his last thoughts are of Leandra, and her name's the last thing he screams.
Great intro... really got me into it. Just that last bit was a wtf.

*scratches his chin*
Hmmm, *ideas of past characters he has played on chatrooms flutter through his head*
I shall have to think on this, and likely have long discussions with the GM (you poor bastard).

SMMORPG
Name: Ottoman Draeculis
Race: Human
Class: Dark Paladin
Level: 33
Abilities: Manipulation and intimidation, control over the undead, summoning beasts, inflicting magical injuries, many and varying knowledges (arcane, geographical, history, mechanics), corruption related things.
Description: Overbearing with an amazing charisma and a dark intelligence and wit. There is no glint of a hope for what he lost in his fall to darkness, only the lust for ultimate power that he wishes to have.
Ingame History/Character Story: Ottoman began as a near fabled Paladin of light. He fought the forces of evil whereever they may be, overzealously some said, but the rest who knew him well knew that he was a paragon of virtue. Then came the day that Ottoman fell. An entire village had fallen to evil. And so Ottoman built up a party of loyal men and led an assault against them. He hunted down every last bit of evil in the city. During the slaughter something in Ottoman snapped. Soon a simple raid turned into a bloodbath as Ottoman and his loyal men slaughtered every last man woman and child in the town, those that did not follow Ottoman were declared traitors and killed on the spot. Ottoman and his loyal men moved on to the next village where the once great man rested and planned. Using the funds he'd gained as a Paladin as well as what he had taken from the destroyed village Ottoman set himself up as a rich philanthropist in the town, using his vast wealth to build himself a large estate and put much of his funds into the advancement of the town, increasing it's militia, funding places of learning and healing, cleaning the streets of filth and riff raff. Soon he mobilized his loyal troops, seeding them into the local military and ensuring their promotions through healthy bits of intimidation, bribery, and blackmail. Ottoman's immense charisma and overpowering aura of determination quickly led more men to follow him, Ottoman has already begun moving them into positions of political power, and he himself has found a position of 'advisor' to the blustering Baron of his territory. He is poised to strike and gain domination over the southernmost region of the Northern Continent.
You rarely actually see his face as while in court or in discussion he is in more regal attire he keeps a metallic helmet on to cover his face except for his eyes.

When I put over a weeks worth of work to craft a entire MMOG setting within the basic RPG setting, even go through the trouble of setting the classes with specific names....and a applicant player puts in the wrong information on the character sheet after *my* hard work to bring a game that will interest people enough to play...
Your damn right I'll nitpick.
It's my right as GM.
And on that note, thank you for fixing it....that was my only complaint.
