#1 Anyone for a Stargate/Culture game?

I have a hankering to run the kind of game where an elite group of players from an advanced culture, working from a nigh-impregnable base, interfere in less sophisticated cultures, beating down on the wicked, liberating the opressed, and generally doing all sorts of well-meaning and nifty things.
And so, a couple of ideas presented themselves.
- A stargate (SGA and/or SG1) game, operating out of one of the established facilities, with all the relevant props and so on.
- A stargate-based game, featuring instead, the crew (be they all aliens, or with humans - a fun option there might be a nox, or hell, those shape-shifting crystals from season one...) of a small Asgard starship (think Daniel Jackson) in season nine (well, the end of eight, rather) onwards, dedicated to surreptisiously provoking social change on planets recently liberated from the Goa'uld, and booting them off their remaining enclaves
- One I'm ever so slightly less keen on, having rather less resources for (not to mention, it'd oblige me to generate very alien races with very-alien quandries), but still: A Culture (Iain Banks) based game, with players as agents of Special Circumstances, operating out of a GCU, dealing with civilisations ranging from Dark Ages to Star Trek-ish technology levels.
I've got a fairly complete set of Alderac SG1-RPG books, if in the first two options, people would like to use that option (there'd be fairly little dice-rolling, as you're unlikely to run into any problem that really needs to be solved by force). So, anyone interested, or will I have to hire a press gang?

I'm interested in the Culture idea, as I don't know all that much about Stargate to be quite honest. It can be handled sans the stats or resources due to sheer characterisation alone if that's what you're worried about. And if you do need easily-adaptable 'on the fly' stats, then try the
Time Lord system as it lends itself to characterisation and Roleplaying rather than stats and Rollplaying. And I'd prefer a little more of the former, and a little less of the latter.

Another option, with the same general theme, might be a Dr. Who themed game, with a group of renegade Time Lords. Mind, I don't expect that one to have as much appeal as the other two settings.

You may be surprised to learn, that the previous post was written before I read this post.
But I'm probably anticipating a very freeform type thing anyway.

I was going to vote for either the Stargate team or the Special Circumstances game, but I now have to absolutely throw my hat in the Time Lord ring.

I emphasize a maybe. I've mused on what the Enclave first-contacts would be like, and they'd very much be a few power players manipulating like this.

Seconded, though can the universe stand a bunch of eccentric Time Lords and one eccentric (though truthful) Time Lord? I mean, one's bad enough! Make a dozen or so and we'll be swamped!
I was actually thinking of starting a Doctor Who RP thread quite recently.

We're talking about a show with Time Travel in it, and something odd happens out of the right order. I'm afraid we won't have enough tinfoil hats for this occurence.

Dont know enough for Culture, or even really Doc Who, but I do know enough for a SG game.

There's not so much you really need to know for the Doctor Who game, you watch one or two Doctor Who episodes and you can generally get the premise from that. In short - it centres around an alien scientist time traveller known only as the Doctor as he goes around all space and time adventuring and exploring. His time machine is the ever-famous TARDIS, which is shaped like a police box due to a faulty chameleon circuit.
As for the Culture, well

If you plan on running a Stargate game, I'd be happy to send you the notes I have so far on my Silhouette Conversion and alternate timeline.

... That's got almost nothing to do with an RP that doesn't involve the Doctor, though. For the basics on Time Lords and TARDISes, you really only need to give
these pages a squiz.

Yes, but it was just in case someone does decide to get the Doctor involved. You know Time Lords, can't do anything without the bescarfed eccentric one in the police box.

Actually, I have a mind to have it in an alternate, non-doctor universe. Also... Pre or post Time War? Any takers?

Well I think it should be post-Time War, the Time Lords having splintered off into small groups or changed to allow more Doctor-esque freedom to groups of Time Lords, rather than their formerly stagnant ways.

Humm. Who wants to appear in a void-ship?

Bah. Voidships, TARDISes. Give me an old fashioned refitted human starship anyday. But remember to make the stasis technology reliable enough to eject things before they blow up.

If it's an alternate universe, why be restricted to having the Time War happen at all? You can do whatever you want.
...
Oh-oh. I think I just said something
very dangerous.

I can do that anyway. But the reason I'm keen on the Time War, is because it
- Limits the kind of shenanigans you can get up to with the TARDIS. Before season 27, it seemed a lot more flexible. Now, you get ganked by reapers.
- Means the Time Lords won't be after you for all your various sins.

Makes sense. So hypothetically the PC Timelords (I'm presuming people could play Companions too) would be the only survivors, like the Doctor in the regular Whoverse?

Speaking of which, would the TARDIS be
this one? Or would it look entirely different? (All written while presuming a nonworking Chameleon Circuit)
EDIT: replaced link with a better TARDIS image.

I'd assume a working one, actually. Though you can always travel in a portaloo if you like.

No, thank you. The hygiene-freak in me would tremble and explode if forced to travel in a... *cringe* portaloo. Ugh. I'd rather go with a TARDIS that looks like a bloody gigantic rolled-up joint.
(EDIT: No, I don't smoke pot, before the question is asked.)

Just as a note, the Tardis looked like a police-box so it wouldn't look out of place in most of the timelines the Dr. originally intended to visit.
I wouldn't be averse to playing a Companion, but I really don't remember much about Dr Who...

Well, it took on that form when he went to the 1960s. But later, when he went back to the stone age, he was very confused that it still looked that way. And he's never permanantly fixed it since.

A vertiable benefit, in that kind. Though less so in an RP. But still.

Humm. Two Time Lords, one human (probably!), and a couple of maybes. I guess I should probably start thinking up ideas...
