Each individual floor tile creaked under his foot as Hugh crept quietly across the deserted hangar bay. He figured massive damage must have been inflicted in here; after all, that floor was designed to support heavy freighters without moving whatsoever. Costs might have been cut elsewhere, but in the areas where people paid the most attention, there was no way around it.
The set of stairs leading up into the control room hallway had been completely torn away at some point during the last hour or so, and was lying in pieces across the floor. No luck there. Hugh decided to try an alternate route - there was a small tunnel which connected into a watch room for just that bay. There was a direct contact line in there to Station Control - but that was nothing more than a long shot in three parts - that the blasted man would even pick up, if he could do anything about it, and if he even would. Hugh's previous experiences with him suggested otherwise.
But the point wasn't just trying to reach Station Control, it was getting out, and back to his little hole on the station he could call home. The quickest access route was from the ducting shafts over the main hangar control station, which he had discovered was quite large enough to walk in and had the advantage of passing directly over the floor on which he lived. He had enough money saved up by now to get the hell out of Dodge, and that was exactly what he planned to do, now.
