Frigid left the mall through the front door. Literally, the guards knew who he was and weren't about to stop him. He jogged out a bit beyond easy view of the mall and looked for a "greeting" spot. He took a position behind an overturned car. As he sat there waiting for the New Guy, as he already thought of the man, he realize he had no damn idea how the car had gotten overturned. Zombies? Looters? Manics? Improvised Barricade? Act of God? Artistic Aliens?

This struck Frigid as fairly funny (no one really appreciated his sense of humor) causing him to laugh. A barking sound that carried a sense of black comedy in it's mirth echoed into the urban landscape as the New Guy got closer.

"Hello Incoming. I'm your welcoming committee of the day. Please advance and be recognized!" Frigid called out still in what was for him a rather cheerful mood. Frigid didn't get to laugh to often these days. Course he still carried the bolt action rifle loaded and pointed at the deck where he could shift it up to a firing position.

John had stayed out in the open. Which was a good way to get himself killed, but it also showed that he had no ill intents. When he heard the greeter it took him a few seconds to locate where the sound was coming from. Looking over at Frigid he smiled a bit.

"Name's John. Heard the Caiger was up and running so I figured I'd give it a look over." He paused for a second. "Who're you?"

FM and John met, and the US marine escorted the anarchist into the Mall. Shortly there after, FM delivered John to the "Welcome Department" - mall citizens who gave him a quick once over, and assigned a "tour guide". The woman was amiable, friendly and when the tour was over, John had a warm meal and a place to set up his fold-up cot - the closest thing to a real bed to be found in the mall.

Throughout the day, Silver's voice played over the survival radio - both within Malton and on the radio's in the Quarantine Zone. Played on a recorded loop, inter spaced with songs found on the limited selection of CD's available - it was a signal beacon to those willing to make the trip.

The sun began to sink in the sky, the coming of dusk was approaching the city. The time for those who were still out, to secure themselves. For some reason, the Undead were more active in the evening hours.

At the Caiger, the night watch took their places, guards posted along the roof. Without the glare of harsh city lights, the moon and stars light up Malton's streets. Within the mall, halon and florescent lights gave the occupants light to see, to commune and enjoy the company of their fellows.

The night settled over Malton, as it always did.

"Lad, I think spendin' tha' tyme ta be searchin' about fer tha' wood would be betta' spent trying to get use closer to tha' mall, dunyu? Iffin ya dun be thinkin' ya can safely getta cross some o' tha roofs, why dunya go through tha buildings? Itswha' I usualla' do. A lot o' the fiya escapes are close enou' you can do alil jump from one to tha uther. Then climb on up or just break though tha winda and go through to tha uther side. Most of tha Zeds seemta like tha streets for easy huntin'. Iffin we be stickin' to tha higher levels I think we can get by safely. Well exceptin where we be havin' to cross tha streets from block to block. But I'm sure we're all right fine runnas' by this point, right laddy?"

Moreno paused, trying to fight the urge to suck in gulping breathes of life sustaining air. He was sprinting as much as he could, avoiding groups of the zombies as he went. They outnumbered the living about 50 to one by this point, if not by more. Accurate counts of either side were impossible anymore. Everyone and everything was too spread out.

He crouched behind a car, peering through the glass to see if any of the flesh eaters were around. Not seeing any close by he sucked in a few more lungfuls of air and took off, legs pumping as fast as they could, carrying him as far as they could. He ran until he thought he would pass out. He ran until his legs were shaking, his muscles burning with acid. And then he'd stop to rest again, catching his breath, letting himself take a breather.

The mall was so close now. An hour, maybe two at the most and he'd be there. So close. If he could just hold out at this pace, but damn it was getting harder to catch his breath every time.

Frigid preferred two storied buildings. You tear up the stair case (easier then you think especially in buildings that hadn't been maintained in over 2 years) and you were fairly secure. Add a barricade at the top and lock and seal the door in the chosen room (Frigid parked a couch behind the door of his chosen room) and you were practically golden.

Course Frigid also set up a fast escape route. In this case a rope into the sub ceiling where he could tear his way into the roof with work. A tool case was already up there and waiting. He turned on his radio.

"Home, this is Hunter Actual. Settled in for the night, I am north, north west of your position will proceed at sunrise south, south east arc. Nothing sighted at this time. Place is quiet. Over."

John slowly settled in, still somewhat tense. After laying in the cot for an hour without being able to sleep, he got to his feet again and took a second, unguided tour of the Caiger mall. John might not call himself an anarchist anymore, but his general mistrust of "the man" remained strong. So John decided to take a look at the real Caiger.

Mike looked at the Scot then shook his head. "Would it be too much to ask for Scots to learn to speak english." He muttered, then looked to the others. "Alright, let's get going." He said, walking across the roof. Thankfully, most of the buildings on the way were pressed against each other, making the travel easy.

As they neared the building that was their destination, the sun began setting. They reached a gap, seperating the fire escape of the building with the one they were currently on. Mike climbed onto a raised portion on their roof. "Ok, guys, packs off. Who want's first jump?" He asked, looking around at his team. No one raised their hands. "Damn it, ok, fine, Kenny, Josh, you're first across." The two guys groaned, then sighed. Together, they climbed onto the portion. Kenny dropped his rifle, wearing just his vest and holster with his pistol. Taking a few breaths, he jumped across, banging against the fire escape, but holding on.

The youngest member of the team climbed over the rail and drew his pistol, covering the window, looking inside. He waved at the others from the gap. Next up, Josh dropped his rifle and jumped across, catching the railing and climbing over. He turned back to the team, and Mike knelt down beside his pack, pulling out a hank of 550 paracord. Mike tossed an end of the rope over to Josh. While Josh held the end of the rope, Mike put the slings of the rifles over the rope and lifted it, letting the rifles slide across the gap. Shifting his grip on the rope, Josh took the rifles off, handing one to Kenny, who was still covering the window. The next across was Jenny, who recieved her rifle from the rope, and along with Kenny, cleared the room on the otherside of the window. Over the next fifteen minutes, CAG crossed the gap, along with their two travelling partners. Mike lifted the rope one last time, his rifle and pack sliding across. As soon as they were placed on the fire escape, he dropped the rope and jumped across, oofing as he hit the rail. He scrambled over and pulled the rope back up.

Entering the room, Mike looked at the rest of his team. "Ok, normal search." He said. Those that had them attached bayonets to their rifles, flashlights flicking on, safeties flicking off. With the light fading outside, they cleared the second floor easily. Mike lead his half of the team down the stairs to the first floor. He heard shuffling and he peeked around the corner. A trio of zeds were stumbling around slowly. Mike glanced back at his teammates, holding up three fingers. They nodded. Mike made sure the bayonet was on tight, the others checking their own, or pulling out machetes. Counting down, the four humans attacked, thrusting the bayonets into the zed's faces, those with machetes hacking at their necks. Soon the zed's were, for lack of a better term, dead.

As the teammates congratulated each other, a burst of gunfire sounded from upstairs, along with sounds of some struggling and more gunfire. "Fuck, Kenny, John, cover the door." He said and took off up the stairs, heading up to the third floor to find Jenny standing over a corpse, Steve backed against the wall, eyes wide. "Steve, you good?" He asked, recieving a nod.

"Alright, take the body down to the first floor. Team two, get down to the first floor and barricade that stairwell." He ordered, recieving nods.

Mike went to the window, looking at the sun, then his watch. Less than half a hour till sundown. Mike watched Steven and Jenny drag the freshly killed zed down the stairs and tossed them into a pile with the others. Using large desks, and anything that wasn't nailed down, the stairwell was sealed off. "And I'd say that's lunch." Mike said with a grin, returning to the room they first entered in and grabbing his pack. As the others did the same, they sat down in the large open space next to the staircase, rummaging through their packs, trying to find something tasty in the slim pickings of their ratfucked MREs.
