It wasnt as if the pit fiends took pains to be invisible. In fact, the news that the Abby was attacked by them in broad daylight would soon reach them. And she was a priestess of Mystra. She could be trusted

"They are unlikely to have spirited him off this plane, and if they have, scrying magics will reveal that." Malkamar stepped forward, bowing low. The Shadovar had every reason to be deferential to a priestess of Mystra. "Pray tell us if you have any means to let us at least try. If he is no longer on Toril, we will have to use other routes, but let us exhaust the possibility first."

"The fiends possess formidable resistance to all forms of magic," she said slowly and patiently. "I have nothing in my inventory that has beyond a slight chance of working if the fiend is in close vicinty of your target."

"I see. I was unaware this resistance would extend to the Abbot himself." Malkamar frowned simply, shaking his head. His attachment to the Shadow Weave had cost him alot, even this apparently clear knowledge.

"It is not the fiends we are trying to track. We are trying to track the abbot who, I doubt is in the presence of the fiends. They were probably summoned to capture him and hopefully would have been paid and dismissed afterward... or one that is left would have been"

"It doesn't. It protects the fiend and the scrying spell affects the target and the area near him. If that includes the fiend, then there will be difficulties. If you are interested, I can sell you a scroll for twelve hundred golds."

This would take the last platinum he had on him, but the treasury would recompense him; it was, after all, church business. He pulled out a small purse and started sorting through the assortment of tricrowns, golden lions, and Sembian coinage.

The little orange kitten slunk out from her hiding place, staring around wide-eyed at the carnage the fiends had wrought. Her mind did not understand all of it, just that THINGS came, and walls fell, and blood spilled, and then THINGS were gone and the two-legs were running around wildly.

But the little orange kitten found her way to one oasis of safety, following the rich earthy scent that had lead her the night before to a nice warm safe sleeping place.

Torma was so deep into her sulk that she was surprised when the kitten me-uuu-ed. It was her only warning before the kitten was climbing up her coiled body to curl up between the horns on Torma's head. Before Torma could think of anything to say or to push her off, the little kitten started purring loudly and happily.

"..... Ok... You win..." Torma sighed heavily, carefully standing so not to shake off the kitten. "Now... where is Gar, Malk, and Astinius...."

It did not take long to realize they were not in sight, nor could she smell them. The one monk she managed to get to talk to her simply pointed off to the city.

"They left? Without me?" It was a low blow, on top of her depression at her lack of skills. Torma's head lowered, and only the kitten's sharp claws kept her from sliding off onto the ground, yowling in protest. Absently, Torma reached up and carefully moved the kitten and set her on the ground. "Stay here, little one. I have to go...."

And the young copper dragon turned and walked out of the Abbey, in the direction the monk pointed.

Gaheris nodded his thanks. The flying enchantment on his boots wouldn't last too much longer, and he was in a hurry.

"We need to hurry. Mystra and Tyr go with you, Lady Starshoulder," he said to the priestess as he turned for the door. Once outside, he took to the air and made straight for the Abbey.

Astinius too bowed and took to the air immediately after he was out of the door and headed straight to the abbey.

It was hard not to notice two rapidly-flying humans, especially when dragons are conditioned to notice movement in any direction. Unlike most ground-dwellers, like humans, who rarely think to look up.

"Gar! Astinius!" Torma called, looking up at them from the center of the street. The locals had given her (understandably) wide berth, while moving to get a better look at what happened to the Abbey.

The mage landed right where the Abbot was taken, and, taking a little tool out of his pouches, scrapped some of the abbot's blood of the stone floor of the Abbey

Gaheris diverted his flight to land next to Torma. "We were just getting a scroll with a spell that Astinius needs to find the Abbot," he said to her. "Come on, we need to get back to the Abbey."

Torma rolled her eyes. "But I just *left* the Abbey...." she grumbled, turning around and walking back thru the gathering crowd of lookie-looies trying to see what happened to cause such damage.

Astinius also collected some of the Pit Fiend's blood from the cobblestone and then tried to find a likeness of the abbot to increase the chances of the spell to succeed.

"It takes all three of you to retrieve a single scroll?" Torma asked snidely as Astinius bustled about gathering the needed components for the spell.

Panting, Malkamar caught up, scowling. "Bloody fliers. Some of us are stuck on the ground. And you go rushing off when we just got attacked! There could have been ambushes!"

"You all left me behind, Malk... I was just asking Gar why it took all three of you to retrieve a single bloody scroll...." Torma griped again, to a fresh audience. "At least one of you could have stayed with me..."

After everything is gathered Astinius unrolls the scroll and lays it out. He mutters the initiators and weaves his hands in the appropriate gestures. His eyes went white, and his Greater Scrying spell was cast.

(DC for the abbot: 10+9+7+10(body part)+5(familiarity)+4(possession)=45)

(OOC: I know those are penalties, but a penalty is the same mechanically as a bonus to the DC...)
