What's the difference between stating 'be careful what you wish for' and analysing ways a wish can be abused? Isn't it about, I dunno, being careful what you wish for? Because what you meant isn't what you technically said?
How is my example different from Hotfoot's Jupiter orbit/blood type ones?
'I wonder how far the barometer sunk.'-'All der way. Trust me on dis.'
'Go ahead. Bake my quiche'.
'Undead or alive, you're coming with me.'
'Detritus?'-'Yessir?'-'Never go to Klatch'.-'Yessir.'
'Many fine old manuscripts in that place, I believe. Without price, I'm told.'-'Yes, sir. Certainly worthless, sir.'-'Is it possible you misunderstood what I just said, Commander?'
'Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a sword a little'
'Run away, and live to run away another day'-The Rincewind principle
'Hello, inner child. I'm the inner babysitter.'

A few things. One, see my post on the previous page. Two, I didn't make the Jupiter example. Three, as I said, the more powerful the wish (alternatively, the more selfish), the more likely it is to be twisted, not that every wish, no matter what, should be twisted equally. Fourth, I said that there is less wiggle room in Mayabird's wish, not none. You're creating a strawman there and should probably reign it in a bit.

You know I've been thinking about this since Hotfoot posted it. I can't figure out what I would wish for honestly. I mean there is a shit load of things I want don't get me wrong but...

In my belief sturcture wishing the people back from the dead could be considered a very selfish act, especially the people I would want back. To give a pop culture example, Buffy wasn't all that thrilled when Willow dragged her back out of the grave was she?

Power... It's tempting so very tempting, but you either earn power and through that earning learn the correct use of it or you run the risk of the temptation destorying you and everything you care about. I would not risk everything I care about.

Money... See power.

Love... Again see Power, only this would be worst as it is certainly abuse of another's free will. If you really cared and loved someone would you do that to them?

So I am left with Knowledge and Wisdom. So I would wish for Knowledge of all things in the universe and the wisdom not to screw myself over. Yeah the odds of this coming back to bite me are so fucking huge...

And now the twist:

The "You" in the title is a plural "You", as in you all. There is but one wish to go around for the entire forum, specifically those that have (or will) contributed to this thread. You have to decided, collectively, who gets to make a wish, and ideally what that wish would be.

Do you now change your stated wishes? Do you give up your claim and support someone else?

Gonna have to go, even with the twist, of absolute knowledge of physical law. With it, power generation can be revolutionized, space travel can(in theory) be mass produced, and so forth.

You did indeed not. My bad.

Not particularly quantifiable I'm afraid.

Again, my bad. That being said without knowing how the power of the wish influences its implementation we're at something of a loss. By which mechanism is the twisting that is to be applied determined?

Since I didn't get to post mine for the first part, I'm gonig to post my selfish wish now.

I wish my lottery ticket numbers for this Wednesday's drawing match the winning numbers pulled.

TADA! Legal $100mil, since I've already bought the ticket!

Technically, my selfish wish would also provide mass benefits.

With absolute control and mastery of Arcane Magicks, nothing would be far beyond my grasp.

The utter powert to twist warp and control the laws of reality would allow me to advance humanity in ways untold..admittedly, all in how *I* want it to be, so it is utterly selfish.

But..one wish for the entire forum? A singular wish, one which we must all decide upon, and the person who makes the wish, has to be honorable enough to NOT screw over the collective by suddenly going "I wish for....." and then stating his own wish, instead of the decided upon one.

......this is hard to say. Who could we possibly trust? And since it is only one wish for the entire group, what will it be?

Intimate knowledge of all of reality would be our best route..and the wisdom not let it dick us around. Though that could be construde as two wishes...

The problem being, who is the person who obtains this knowledge? Can we have it where each of us obtains this knowledge, or just one?

As the old saying goes, Knowledge is power, and the person(s) who possess this new wealth of knowledge, has literally become gods. Who can we trust for all this? Who amoungst us?

With the twist, I back Nit up. It'd be unfeasable to have everyone on the board billionaires, but if we all knew things that could revolutionise science as we know it, we'd be able to get some serious shit done.

Yeah you can completely change everything... While you're alive. Nitram or my wish results in advances that aren't dependent on a spell caster sitting around to keep things going. On a side note, I'm not feeling warm thoughts trusting B4 with arcane power, while the AF officers will likely deserve everything he does to them, I kinda doubt we'll get much else from him.

I prefer my method. ;)

Research grants and patent fees on fusion power, space elevators, electrostatic shields, and such, are going to be more than a 100mil.

Give me a few years to tire of abusing them in hideous manners and we'll talk alright? I've got a few issues I need to work out upside their head. My shrink told me it'd be healthy for me! He said if you ever feel that violent take our your aggression on an inanimate object. I figure officer's heads are well within that definition!

Officers move, it's just a very slow process. Time-lapse photography has proven it conclusively.
