Hello everybody,
How's stuff? I'm a whole year older now (24, odd year, been relaxed thus far), still alive in UD's Borehamwood, and just tripping along happily now looking for work as I defer a semester of uni so I can move on campus and not do the 4-4.5 hours travel to and from uni each day I have for the past 2.5 years...
When I was first acquainted here, Josh (Petro) made a thing about only inviting good, honest, intelligent people to the forum. It is a small, very close community and is very relaxing and enjoyable. As such I've invited 2 maybe 3 people to these fine boards over the past 3 almost 4 years of residence here (and lurked more so then any other forum), of which one is the lovable Cass (aka Rukia).
So my question is, what type of people can we invite here? I've been posting on another forum for quite some time, it's a GW based forum, all unofficial and very closed off. There's a few people on there that are really good people, and the rest, including the vast majority of the mod team fall under the classification of biased dick heads. I copped a final warning (had 1 previously and that was like 3 years back and I deserved it, no regrets though on that one) there today for 3 posts made yesterday - 1 I called 1 chap a dickhead (he quite literally is and I'd had enough, belittling everyone, saying they don't contribute, andinsulting anyone and everyone...*shakes fist*), though he repeatedly takes the piss out of everyone and inflames a whole chunk of people; I said a dreadnought was not a tank; and made a comment that it was too easy to bait some people. Judge it how you like, I generally don't post at 3am onwards for just that reason - I speak my mind and damn the consequences.
This is all an aside. From that forum, there are about 3 people I'd call a friend, 4 actually, but 3 that were there already whom I didn't introduce there. Out of these people, there is one chap who has had enough of being told he doesn't contribute anything because the only sub-forum he uses is the Random Musings, the equivalent of the off topic lets just talk about stuff in general sub-forum. I'm not sure how he'd get along here, but am reasonably confident he'd fit in. I haven't posted much in our 'Down Below' section, and thus haven't gotten to know many of you as I should have by now, to know for sure whether he'd fit in here.
So the question is, what's the policy on inviting people to this community?
Many thanks for your time,
Luke.

Feel free to invite anyone you think is good people. We have a ban hammer if you fuck up and invite a total dick.

I won't deny I'm intelligent (at least by DCU standards) and I guess with me being a hero I technically count as good, but one of the things that let me actually BE a hero is that I am NOT honest.

Well, that's encouraging. Even so, I'llr estrain myself from giving you all a hard time at doing your otherwise relaxed jobs. :DCynical Cat wrote:Feel free to invite anyone you think is good people. We have a ban hammer if you fuck up and invite a total dick.

Though The Juggernaught is most amusing in his proclamations of him being the Juggernaught and everyone else being bitches.
As a totally random aside, if My sister had the depth of random GW based gaming knowledge I've got and I had the depth of Comic book awesome knowledge she had, the world would be epic. *nods*
Cheers,
Squidgey.
P.S. One thing about this forum, I like how no one bats an eyelid when I politely sign off on every post regardless of there being a signature option. So many people have no concept of why you'd do so if you have a signature AND an avatar/username already available for viewing...

*scratches head*
Maybe fgalkin doing the exact same thing might have something to do with that?
And just because we generally don't bother with politeness much doesn't mean we see anything WRONG with it.
No, we do NOT understand why you politely sign off on every last one of your posts. (Well I don't at any rate). But since it hurts nobody, doesn't cost you anything but a little time, and doesn't HARM anyone, why would we be concerned?

Well, a bit of explanation is in order then I suppose. I guess it's a bit of an archaic practice in any case, but I find it more polite to sign off on a post because in essence it is a letter. Sure it's just a forum post, but it brings about the post to a definite end and also allows me to make use of post scripts without flowing sentences to introduce other related yet random and usually off-topic thoughts.
That make sense?
Cheers,
Squidgey.
P.S. Since Travian finished (yay, made it to the top alliance by the end in 1/3 the time my aunt took to get to their wing, heh, and our meta alliance won the first australian server), I've been playing just Urbandead (Borehamwood, 53 of us left alive - the 48'ers who are fixing everything like crazy people {180-230 AP fixes now 8 months in, so 3-4 day coma's} and us 5 people in Rambo Ninja Spidrman's Special Dark Watch {We're the crazies who survive in pinata's and are busy turning the forest into one huge graffittied story book, loool!}), and Dead Frontier. As such I have a heck of alot of free time, and have been getting bored of the internetz much faster. It is odd. Someone should bludgeon me a bit to post here more definitely. :)

My bad.
Simply put: On the forum from which I mentioned in this first post, they had a big hoo har about it and simply didn't get it. Or the vast majority didn't anyways. It wasn't accepted very kindly and to be honest, for that point alone I should be heaping scorn upon said people and posting here instead.
In fact I am messaging the 5 people that are actually worth talking to and good people there right now with alternate ways to contact me as I suspect all I have to do is open my mouth and say hey, and they'll ban me. Lesson to be learnt from all of this: NEVER tell a mod he is a dick head regardless of how much he deserves it because you'll get a warning and the ban hammer shall land.
Does it matter if I'm ever infused enough to turn around and call someone a douche here for their actions? I expect you to call me a prick if I do do something stupid here because at times I have done some pretty stupid things on forums - but they're gaming forums, not forums where people actually talk normally about all sorts of stuff as a whole (The UD forums are the one exception to this bias towards gaming forums I appear to have).
Anyways,
Cheers,
Squidgey.

Seems the reason is the type of people that inhabit the forum are just dicks.
Years ago, I use to sign my posts with:
Cyaround,
J@$0&
With my real name over there and I've had no problems when I did it.
P.S. - See if you can guess my name.

J240&...Jzao&...I fail at 1337 speak, which is just as well.
in any case, I've posted a good solid response on said forum, which you'll note I am not mentioning it here the name anyways because no one needs to be tainted by it, on what was supposed to be a stab in the kidney's comment which should go down quite well. In sum to a response on how my posting is working out there (okay, back story, I originally posted under one username, it was a hectic time and I did some stupid things, but nothing to write home about {except reversing one of their forums because well someone pushed me too far too often and being a mod I decided to actaully make them do some work, hence the first warning which I don't have any compunctions/regrets about [to sum up, to be a total arsehole you post in every single thread in a forum/sub-forum in order from the most recent to the oldest. It is much more fouler then simple thread-o-mancy and in effect puts the fmost recent threads last and the oldest threads first. The only way to fix said reversal is for mods to go back and respond in kind to every single thread. It works surprisingly well on forums without time limits to post between posts and I'd heartily reccommend it to anyone who needs a good mission of vengeance against arse wanks on internet forums who don't understand that insults online largely in most communities don't have any real bearing and are usually done in a most childish and sarcastic manner]}, and forever was labelled as a member to stay away from. So I chilled out for 6 months, started posting on a few other gaming forums under a differing alt and started again under this new name. I made a good few friends,a nd made a good amount of money profit in trades/purchases of miniatures from 1 member who I've also gotten to know as a good mate. Old bias's don't seem to disappear despite not having broken a single rule and...I'm rambling good and proper, this hasn't happened in some time, my apologies for said wall of text) I have been upfront honest. 5 friends a few of which I should keep for life, and $3,000 of profit in trades for models for 40k and WARMACHINE means I'm doing damned fine there all things considered. I am sure I am gonna get cut pretty hard for then asking how the belittling of Ben is doing for this prick of a mod. Not an issue.
I digress.
At least i think I did.
There's this wall of text above which whilst still small is pretty wall'sy.
In short, I am unsure of your actual name Soontir948.
Maybe one day I'll go on a quest, defeat foul dragons, and rescue random princesses and find out. Who knows, anything is possible or so I'm told.

To the 1337 speak comment, it was one way to look at it as a possibility.
Soon tir?
Soo ntir?
Soonti r?
Somehow I believ I am failing regardless.
My mate who has adopted his usual alias of Random Monnicle has just joined, and is impressed with the depth of sub-forums already. being quite wasted froma rough day he has elected to post more tomorrow and likely not tonight, despite it being just past midday local Sydney time, though for him in the U.K. it is understandable the time difference.
Cheers,
Squidgey.

Soontir is not an anagram of my real name. It's a name of a Star Wars character.
tl;dr means too long, did not read. A big blob of text is highly unappealing.

Funky, Squidgey is made up entirely. Though someone in UD at some point made Squidgy and went hunting to kill me as all good PK'ers should, which was amusing till I turned counter-PKer and clocked up over 100 kills all screen shotted (only got like a bounty of 6 in all which is disappointing) before getting bored.Soontir948 wrote:Soontir is not an anagram of my real name. If you think that's a wall of text, there's a thread on the ogame universe 29 boards that shows me ranting good and proper. 1 hour to type 3 entire thread posts of rant. It was epic.
Cheers,
Luke.

To be honest, I've not followed much of its' development, but I'm not sure how you'd manage to do a Where The Wild Things Are movie fantastically well for more then 15 minutes...sure it'll look awesome and shiny but so did Transformers 2, and well visuals aren't anything so awesome these days that a stable plot can be missing. So in short, it remains to be seen.
