#1 Dad is gone

Post by Steve »

My world's coming apart. They called and said it was a "critical situation" and the doctor needed to see me. He'd been gone for over 3 hours at that point. THe ME is going to examine him. Something about the pneumonia in both lungs causing fluid in his heart.

I don't know what to do. I don't know anything. I'm broke. Paying rent will bankrupt us. I can't pay for his arrangements. I'm a failure. He did so much for me and all I can do is cry and hope his side of the family can help with the bill.

I can't think straight even. I just want my daddy back.

Ah Hell, I'm sorry Steve. Look take a deep breath and try to focus on one thing at time. First thing to do is to inform everyone who needs to know and then you worry about the rest of it okay? It'll work out man, just don't freak.

Damn Steve, I'm sorry man. I really am.

Just..do what Frigid says, don't try to think of everything at once, focus on one thing at a time.

We're here for you as best as we can be.

We are listening, and you are not alone, Steve. Just try to keep your breathing slow, and take care of one thing at a time - don't let things pile on and overwhelm you. You can get through this.

Your workplace might have an Employee Assistance Program. If they do, you can give them a call. Those programs can help with a lot of different problem circumstances- family, finances, and so on.

My condolences, and as everybody said just try to take care of one thing at a time. One foot in front of the other, amigo.

Steve, PM/IM me. I have gone through this myself, and where I work in Vital Registration, I can give some tips dealing with the funeral home and paperwork. But most of all, I'm here to listen.

Ah....shit. I've been staring at the screen, trying to think of something else to type, but really, there are no words. Be well, man, even if that seems impossible to you right now.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know you, but that's rough for anybody to go through. Hang in there - Frigid's right. The logistics will work out some way or another.

I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Death is a terrible thing, with the death of a loved one your world grows smaller and there seems to be less in it. It's even worse when it comes suddenly, by surprise. I don't know enough to offer any real advice, but I can see that you're in pain, and I'm here if it matters.

I really have nothing I can say here, as I suppose nobody else does. I'm just so terribly sorry for your loss, and, to echo everyone else, we're all here for anything you might need.

I'd like to thank you all for your condolences and wishes. These first few days without my father in my life have been painful, but the world is still spinning after all. I'm trying to reassemble the pieces as I go along (and convince my supervisor I'm not a breakdown waiting to happen, heh).

Thanks again for your support.

We had the service today. It was proper for Dad, marred only by a pastor unfamiliar with him relying heavily on my Grandmother's... skewed memories and views of him.

My brother gave the high point. Having nothing to say himself, he merely had a song played, one that he and Dad loved and which Dad considered his song: Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man".
