Dr. Pepper and Chocolate make a good float, but with Root Beer you should use vanillia.
That being said, I suppose I shouldn't mention the practice of suidice floats?
Where you mix two soda favors and add ice cream. (a suidice is the mix of two soda favors on their own, try mixing coke and mountain dew and sit back for a bit).

After this thread was started, I began to crave a root beer float.
I blame Charon for this, of course.
So I went to Wal-mart at midnight, to obtain the ingrediants for a root beer float, seeing as I don't have any ice cream or root beer on the job location.
So fast forward to me having obtained a proper mug and a 2 litre of Root Beer, and heading into the Ice Cream section, in search of ice cream to make the float.
When what doth my eyes should appear - no it's not a sleigh with eight tiny reindeer - but a half gallon of the most holy of holies.
Root Beer Float flavored Ice Cream.
I said to myself, "Self....should we try this?"
And I replied, "Yes, yes I should."
And thus I purchased a half gallon of Root Beer Float flavored ice cream, and got back to the jobsite.....and made myself a root beer float with "root beer float" ice cream.
I pronounce, after two floats, and then approx 1/2 of the half gallon, it was a good decision.
So my answer has now changed to "root beer float" flavored ice cream.
