Well, better than losing the posts entirely. Time to repair my thread.

Dark Silver wrote:the two databases are carbon copies up to January 31 2007. After that, there is a 5 day gap, where the database for this board had no activity, while the other one had all our activity.

yesterday is the pooch screw, with any new threads and posts added to this board, now share ID's with totally different threads over in the other database....
So there are two databases:

(A) the database we are currently using now. This database do not store our posts since February 1 2007, because this database had no activity for 5 days (the 5 days gap).

(B) the database at ARSD.net, which contains all our posts since February 1 --it is the database that had all our activity for 5 days.

Am I being correct up to this point??

I'm just thinking.....

What if we abandon THIS database instead, and just use the database at ARSD.net? This one database had no activity for five days, while the database at ARSD had.

So why don't we just overwrite this one database with the ARSD.net database?

Of course we'll lost our newer posts and threads on this database, but heck, I bet this database contains FEWER new posts than the database on ARSD.net. In fact, it seems we will only lose two threads: this one thread, and a thread on testing forum.

It's just an idea though, and I think it'll be more practical than manually rebuild the thread.

Well, that is a possibility, but I'd have to drop the forums database from the live server and reupload it from my house. It is almost 80 megs of data (small compared to what you are used to, KAN, for sure, but a lot of data for me to shove up my bandwidth).

Since I also don't have ssh access to the server (grrr), I'd have to break it all up into several parts and do them one at a time over the web interface. That is what I did when we first moved from freeyabb, and it took me all damn day. Breaking it up takes time, then uploading it takes a really long time, then there are timeout limits on web scripts that really slow things down.

It is an option, just a real hassle for me, and tonight I need to get to bed early (school tomorrow at 8am, and the roads are pure hell, so I need to be up early), then have stuff to do during most the day.

Tomorrow night I might be able to tackle it if it is what everyone really wants though. But I'd frankly prefer just having us all cut and paste our own posts.

I see. :???: 80 megs is LARGE indeed when you need to transfer all the data through the internet.

Until we decide which solution we're gonna' apply, how about temporarily put LA on read-only mode? (to avoid more 'post gap') Just an idea though.
