The biggest frozen pizza company in Norway has come out with a pair of new ads, and I thought I should share them with you! Yes I did, because I'm nice :)

Ad #1

1. The Baker
2. The Eater
3. The Slapper

It'll all make sense as you watch the ad!

Ad #2

To help you out I've decided to include a little translation of the charming song that's being sung during the ad:
Full package!
Shamanamadong!
Get ready for late evenings
Killer in cardboard
No other drug that counts
Shamanamading
It's almost so you'd cry
Your tongue is spinning
Could'a eat'n it before it defrosted

More delish than Anette Stai-ai-ai
Hotter than the 17th of May-ay-ay
Full package!

Shamanamadong!
Wobbly underlip
Dress and sarong
Everyone does the same moves
Shamanamadang!
Grandiosa in the middle of your face
Lobotomisong
Everyone's gotten brainwashed
Anette Stai is a fitness guru, 17 May is the Norwegian national day, just FYI.

Now these ads actually make sense if... well no they don't make sense, but there's a reason for why they'd spend so much money on them, and it goes something like this...

First you should know that in Norway prices are high

1.5 liters of Pepsi Max costs $2.1 (including a $.35 bottle return)

Instant Noodles $1.5-$2.5 depending on brand and where you shop.

Pizza in a restaurant from $28 - $35.

Even McDonalds is quite expensive.

The reason for this is of course the 25% sales tax, the high unemployment benefits which means that you have to outbid that, and lots of regulation. In short if you do anything in Norway you want to involve as few people and as little service as possible, otherwise prices will go up, sharply up.

There is one exception to this general rule though, and that is Norways unofficial National Dish: Frozen Pizza!

Prices here vary between roughly $3 for the smallest unfrozen sort, to $5.25 for the most popular sort, and up to $10-$12 for the 700-800 gram "Restaurant High Quality" things.

Before I continue I should add that the selection in most Norwegian stores is relatively poor, there's one big and one minor national dairy producers, and some specialty providers. There's one really huge poultry products provider. Etc, etc, it's a legacy of privatizing nationalised industries, and the creation of huge co-ops.

With Pizza it's different, there's at least six nation wide Pizza companies, each with three to five different kinds of Pizza, which means there's probably more selection in Frozen Pizza than any other grocery. There's little brand loyalty, a huge market, and cut throat competition.

In short the biggest Pizza companies have both the money and the need to buy a lot of advertising, just about every ad break you get on TV there's a couple of ads for frozen pizza.

The ads are crazy, but they work. I now have a desire to go and acquire some of this pizza.
